FRIDAY OCT. 17TH, 2014

Dear Rotarians;
Last evening, Maryellen and myself had the pleasure of attending the 5th annual Salvation Army Gala held at Colonial Terrace, Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. with our President Kathy and Jim, Al L. and Dimmy, Amy & Joe Covais, Margie & Dave Keith, Tony Mac. and Sal Gambino.
There were many Rotarians from Carmel, Brewster, Mahopac, and Westchester County.
Our own Rotarian Jim Reitz was honored for his dedication to the principles of Rotary, "SERVICE ABOVE SELF." The weather was perfect, the accommodations were delightful and the food & service were very good.
Jim was presented with service awards from the Salvation Army, City of Peekskill, the Albany Legislature and our own former Rotarian, Putnam County Executive, Maryellen Odell.  Peekskill Mayor, Frank Catalina, Esq delivered the above awards to Jim and told the audience of their longstanding legal relationship, Jim's exemplary reputation in the legal community and his tireless dedication to the betterment of our local community including Jim being a member of Mahopac Falls volunteer department.
In the past five years three members of our club have been recognized by the Salvation Army and Jim now becomes a prestigious member of that crew along with Sal Gambino and George Knoechel.  A Carmel Rotarian being honored in 3 out of the 5 times the Salvation Army has presented these awards is quite an achievement.
Today our brother Rotarian Don Smith received the BRONZE KEY AWARD  from the National Council on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependencies.  The Bronze Key Award  is a national recognition award granted to an individual that has made an outstanding contribution to the field of substance abuse prevention. Due to previous medical commitments Maryellen and myself were unable to attend the ceremony and we would like to congratulate Don for his achievements.
So, congratulations to our Carmel Rotary Club and our dedicated Rotarians.
