Hope springs eternal!

Despite having to cancel our 2020 Prom Closet, the Prom Closet Committee has been very busy preparing 2021 and for what we hope will be our BEST Prom Closet ever!

Committee Chair Donnis Deever, joined by her daughter Dawn and Sandra Eng, recently spent time at Landmark Elementary School to sort through and relocate Prom Closet inventory to the school’s “new and improved” locker rooms.

Principal Schaffler was kind enough to let Donnis’s team enter and work even though the school is shutting down due to COVID.

While sorting through the gowns and other material, the team also packed five enormous boxes that the club is donating to Mingus Mountain High School under the leadership of Kristi Seekins, where a new Prom Closet is emerging. Peoria North Rotary Club has agreed to provide items to help jump-start their first Prom Closet next spring.

The Prom Closet inventory keeps refreshing from store donations as well as from the public. Our men's wear partner, MR FORMAL in downtown Phoenix has furnished us with incredible stock of men's formal wear.

We are reassembling the inventory in such a way that we could operate dramatically differently next spring if schools are allowed to hold proms.  We may have to serve one student at a time with no changing rooms.  Students would pick one or two dresses they like and simply leave. Or we may hold the Prom Closet in Landmark's huge parking lot - again with very different protocols.

But we will be ready. A byproduct of what we are doing is that we are collecting a great deal of quality men and women's clothing that is NOT prom-suitable, but would make a great addition to wardrobes.

So please let Donnis know if you know of organizations that would be able to use very nice day clothes for men and women.

Also, the committee has received 20 brand new bridal gowns of various sizes and styles. Donnis’s team would like to sell these online to raise funds for The Prom Closet. Anyone who would like to assist in that effort is asked to contact Donnis.
