John Hucks
International Coffee House
There are 2300 international students registered at Fleming and another 800 at Trent. This large number is a significant contribution to our local economy and adds another layer of diversity to the landscape of Peterborough.
John Hucks runs the International Coffee House and has been working to integrate international students in the community for many years. This includes organising Thanksgiving dinners, organising community trips, and a weekly meeting for students. At Trent last year, they organised a community homestay for students that was very popular as residence closes down over the holidays.
John is a member of the coordinating committee for the Peterborough Immigration Partnership which is a big component of the community development work at the New Canadians Centre and a member of the international student support and retention working group.
