This is our regular standing bi-monthly stuffing the bags volunteer activity at Bags of Fun headquarters in Centennial. We currently meet from 11am-Noon. Hopefully in the near future we will deliver the bags directly to kiddos in the Children's Hospitals.
The Gabby Krause Foundation is a network of caring people who want to make a difference in the lives of children with cancer and other long-term childhood illnesses. Their signature project is Bags of Fun®, which was established in October 2004 in honor of an amazing 6-year-old, Gabby, who also had a terminal disease. Their mission is to bring joy, laughter, and relief to every child fighting a life-threatening disease or condition.
What began as a mother’s wish to offer a playful respite for her daughter fighting brain cancer has now become a movement to reclaim the innocence and playfulness of childhood for those who are defenseless by the realities of their medical condition. When a child is diagnosed with a life threatening or debilitating condition, their chance to be a kid - to play, to laugh and to be silly - is suddenly taken away from them. The focus becomes finding the right doctors, deciding on treatment plans, and facing the fears that no parent or child ever dreams of facing. Bags of Fun give these children an escape from the scary, adult world. The objective of this program is to harness the power of play as a means to increase happiness and speed recovery when a child needs it most. Every minute a child spends enjoying toys from their Bag of Fun is another minute spent as a distraction from the illness, pain and anxiety that they experience every day. By giving children and their families a Bag of Fun, the Gabby Krause Foundation is living up to a dream set by a young girl, a girl who knew firsthand the impact a simple toy, game or puzzle could provide during the fight of her life. |
