Today's speakers presented an overview of the restoration of The Hope Mill at Lang.Bob Rehder a retired engineer from GE was the Chair of the team that restored the mill into working order.Bob with aid of a power point presentation reviewed the changes from a ruined building filled with racoon poop to a functioning saw mill powered by water power.A highlite for me was the design of a Solar Kiln for drying lumber.Rotarian Peter Koeslag who introduced Bob,was a key member of the restoration team & Rotarian Mike Evans serves on the Board. Professor Kathryn Campbell who lives in the stone house across the road from the mill serves as the archivist of the committee & gave an interesting account of the history of the mill. It was built in 1836 by William Lang as a carding & fulling mill for processing wool. The photo shows the restored water turbine that powers the mill.
