On Wednesday, October 3, an event was held on The Kawartha Trans Canada Trail (KTCT) to celebrate The Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield and The Rotary Club of Peterborough becoming the managing partners of the 3.5 km section of the KTCT in Smith Township from Atkinson Rd to Highway #7. Rotarian Pete MacLoghlin the chair of the RGWT committee spoke on behalf of Rotary followed by Mayor Mary Smith who said how pleased she was to have the township become a partner with Rotary. Smith Township councillor Sherry Sennis chaired the “gathering” which was held on the trail near the Lily Lake Rd crossing. The audience included Rotarians Nick Avlonitis and Mike Evans, members of The Cycling Dudes & Biker Babes who arrived on their bikes (photo), ORCA, City and Township staff plus Lion Club members who manage the trail west of Highway #7 to Omemee. The Rotary Club of Peterborough conceived, financed and built the 16 km section of the KTCT between Atkinson Rd & Omemee in 2003. The KTCT is a 60 km rail corridor from Manilla in the west through Lindsay and Omemee to the Jackson Creek Trail in Peterborough at Atkinson Rd. More photos are in Photo Journal
