A very successful District 7010 Conference titled Kawartha Homecoming was held in Peterborough from Sept 25-28 under the leadership of District Governor Tom Bennett and hosted by the 3 local Rotary clubs.Wendy Hill,Alan Ingram,John McCormack,Will Cleveland,Joe McCulloch,Jon Bryan,Lloyd Graham & Susan Mackle represented our club on the organizing committee. A best ball golf tournament was played on Thursday Sept 25 at The Kawartha Golf & Country Club.That evening Rotarians had an option to view a Petes hockey game from one of the private boxes . Friday Sept 26 the Conference opened at 1:00 Calvary Church.Friday evening participants enjoyed Rotary fellowship as local Rotarians hosted guests for dinner in their homes. Saturday Sept 26 the conference continued at the Calvary Church. The morning featured Roy McGregor a Globe & Mail columnist who writes about the lives of ordinary Canadians.This talk was followed by a presentation by the 2008 GSE team from District 7010 led by our own Lloyd Graham who visited 3 countries in southern Africa. In the afternoon Lieutenant Governor David Onley gave a passionate talk on the issues of accessibility for the challenged members of society. David was thanked by Kate Morgan herself a physically challenged individual.Saturday evening DG Tom hosted The Gala at The Wellness Centre. Guests enjoyed a gourmet 5 course meal followed by dancing with the music of Terry Gueil's band.Past RI President Wilf Wilkinson presented a RI Foundation Distiguished Service award to Carl Dixon from Orillia, one of 50 awarded in the world!.
Sunday morning the Conference concluded at the Holiday Inn with a talk by Paul Harris fellow Rudy Massimo on leadership issues & the challenges of engaging our youth, followed by a delicious brunch.Congratulations to DG Tom & his team for a wonderful weekend.Go to Photos for pictures from the conference.
