In lieu of providing our guest speakers with a gift, the Rotary Club of Penetanguishene annually donates $500 to a charity in honour of our guest speakers.  For the 2014-2015 Rotary year, which began on July 1st, the club is supporting "In Grandmothers Hands Huronia".  They locally support the Stephen Lewis Foundation's "Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign".

For the 2013-2014 Rotary year, the club supported Big Brothers and Big Sisters of North Simcoe.

About the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign:

African grandmothers are central to the life of their communities. With almost no support, they have stepped forward to care for millions of children orphaned by AIDS, sometimes as many as 10 to 15 in one household. They display astonishing reserves of love, courage and emotional resilience, even while grieving the loss of their own adult children.

The Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign raises funds for the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s work with grassroots organizations that support grandmothers living in the midst of the AIDS pandemic in Africa. These community-based programs provide African grandmothers with food, health care, school fees and school uniforms for their grandchildren, income-generating programs, counseling, social support, essential shelter, and other necessities.
