We've been out and about the past couple weeks, so here's a recap of what we've been up to!

October 24th - We walked to End Polio!  Thanks to Town of Penetanguishene Staff who helped us get safely down Main Street without incident and a big thanks to Sue for organizing.  We had fun, enjoyed the sun and enjoyed subs at La Cle following the walk.

October 31st - Paul and Marjolyn did an incredible job of preparing everything so that we could get together and chop, wash, trim and cook 60 meals for The Guesthouse. The first meal will be served on Saturday, November 11th - we need to send 4 volunteers to help serve the meal.  Brian and Laurie will be there - can we get two more?  You'll need to be there at 5pm.

November 7th - We were fortunate to have the District Foundation Chair as our speaker to kick off Rotary Foundation Month!  In case you didn't make the connection (as I didn't), Sue Cook was our speaker. :)  More on that below...but we were also glad to have Jan back in good health to cater our lunch.  After a number of Happy Dollars and a Festival of Trees update, Sue shared a great overview of the Rotary Foundation.

One of the top rated charities in the world, The Rotary Foundation was first established 100 years ago!   This Foundation is essentially funded by Rotarians around the globe, and it is the international face of Rotary's humanitarian efforts.  The Rotary Foundation has two different types of grants available for clubs to apply for - all we need to do is have someone trained so that we can properly apply and receive these grants for projects in our community.

District Grants - the Foundation has District Designated Funds which are allocated by each district for Clubs to spend on projects here or abroad (but the project must be completed within the Rotary Year).  Examples of some of last year's projects: Elliot Lake - Project Lifesaver, North Bay & Nippissing - sending students to the 2017 World Affairs seminar, Huntsville - Water Well in Malawi, and Innisfail - Rotary Trail & Living Classroom.

Global Grants - much larger international projects, where two clubs are involved (one in the city where the work is executed, and the other sponsoring club).  An example of this is the Guatemala Literacy Project, which is one of the 10 Best Foundation Global Grants.  This project seeks to make everyone in Guatemala literate - through a variety of programs.

The other major focus of the Rotary Foundation is Polio Eradication.  There are only 12 live cases of Polio in the world - down from 35 last year.  Once we reach zero cases, we have to maintain this for three years before we can truly claim that it's been eradicated.  SO close!

Thanks to Sue for this great talk.

In other news, our website has a new look...please check it out!
All the information for Festival of Trees can be found on the right hand side, under the Speakers, etc.  The most important things to note are: 1) Tree set up will take place November 16 & 17th and Decorating will take place November 17-19th at all three locations.  2) The list for who is to contact which sponsor is posted on our website - please review and reach out to those with your name on them!

Have a great week!
