On Thursday, July 13, 2017, the Rotary Club of Chicago O'Hare will welcome Dr. Milka Ramirez, LCSW Assistant Professor of Social Work at NEIU, the co-founder of En Las Tablas Performing Arts, a 501 (C)(3), in Chicago’s predominantly Latino neighborhood of Hermosa. Her presentation brings to the forefront the important role that grass-root community-based organizations have in the lives of children, youth and families. To that end, the crucial role that grass-root community-based organizations such as, En Las Tablas Performing Arts hold in the 21st century will be discussed. Join us for lunch and fellowship on Thursday at noon at The Great Escape!!

Our Rotary Club has donated 700 blankets, slippers, pillows with cases, First Aid Kits and full amenity kits to the Jesse White Trunk Party. This is a traditional where supportive families and friends fill a trunk for a college-bound student with all of the essentials for a successful college experience. In this case, the larger community will show our support to 700 disadvantaged kids at the Trunk Party this coming week-end Saturday, July 15^th and Sunday, July 16^th. We need your help to make this happen – Saturday from 8:30 – 3:30 and Sunday 7:30 – 3:30 at the Jesse White Community Center on 412 West Chicago in downtown Chicago. Any questions? Rotary Family Fun Night will be held this year on Tuesday, August 1^st at 7:10 PM at Guaranteed Rate Field at the Blue Jays vs Sox game. The game offers a night where Rotarians and Veterans are recognized and honored. So it is now time to buy:

Diane Carroll, the Executive Director of My Joyful Heart will be at our July 27th Rotary meeting. Annually our Club participates in a “Back To School” Supply Drive at the Club meeting she attends. This year Ed Jacob has made this opportunity easier by pre-ordering in larger lots the items needed for the student needs list. The items he has ordered are 24 clear backpacks, 48 boxes of 10 pencils, 48 4-pack erasers, 48 blunt-end scissors, and 48 boxes of 16-pack crayons. If you are interested in helping with this, Ed calculated that $20 per member would cover the costs. You can bring cash or a check to Ed Jacob for your donation if you choose to participate. My Joyful Heart provides, for over 700 disadvantaged children in several CPS schools, gift events for each sponsored child including Valentine’s Day, Easter, Summer Vacation, Back-to-School, Fall, Christmas and Birthday. Our Rotary Club and several of our members sponsor a child in this program for $420 annually. Any additional school supplies and brown grocery bags you can bring will add to the event.

Important Club and Foundation Board information:

• Club Board will meet at 11:00 AM on the third Thursday of each month except Thursday, July 27^th and Thursday, August 31^st. District 6450 Governor 2017-2018 Scott McAdam will visit our Board Meeting and speak to our Club on Thursday, August 31^st.

• Foundation Board will meet next on Thursday, August 3^rd.

Rotary International is requesting that we keep track of our Rotary Volunteer Hours for 2017-2018. Cruz Bernal-Albano, our President, has designed a new roster that we are going to implement starting Thursday that will include “volunteer hours”. Each week you can just jot down your information – including attending our meeting for 2 hours (travel, lunch, speaker) I would guess that collectively we will have an amazing number!! Thanks.
