The Rotary Club of Chicago -O'Hare
meets weekly at 12:00 noon
The Great Escape in Schiller Park IL
*****On Thursday, November 15, 2018, the Rotary Club of Chicago O'Hare will enjoy a meeting with good food, no speaker which will give us time for summarizing the Club Board meeting and Club business, and a chance to visit with your Rotary friends. The Club Board of Directors will meet at 11:00 AM at the Great Escape. Hope to see you then.
***** Next Thursday is Thanksgiving so we will not have a meeting. Enjoy the day with your family and friends with gratitude for the many blessings in your life. As for Rotary we are forever grateful for your commitment, time, energy and your giving heart!
Let our lives be full of both THANKS and GIVING!
*****Rotary International is requesting that we keep track of our Rotary Volunteer Hours for 2018-2019. Each week you can just jot down your information on our attendance sheet or keep track of those hours to report in a couple of weeks. Collectively we will have an amazing number!! Thanks.
*****It is not too early to think about the Holiday Season 2018 for three of our charities.
****We need your help! Mercy Housing Lakefront Grand Family Apartments in Roseland continue to need our support. We would like to continue to give a gift to each of ten grandmothers including several gift cards to help stretch their meager budgets for the holidays. These need to be in the denomination of $25 from Target, Walmart or Walgreens. We will need these by Thursday, November 29th at our meeting. Larry Fritz, our beloved Scrip (Manna) Chair, will order for us (new order going in on Monday, Nov. 12) with a financial benefit coming back to the Club. 1fritzlaw@att.net As an incentive, any Club member contributing $100 or more will be eligible for “Paul Harris recognition points.” Any questions, check with Kay Whitlock.
****Thank you!! On November 14 & 15 the Hines VA Hospital Veteran Stand Down will be held at Humboldt Park Armory. Each year our Club in coordination with Rotary District 6450 has gathered men's winter coats for these homeless vets. The sizes should be from Large – XXXL. No leather or ladies coats will be accepted. Thank you to supporting this effort financially – John Kearns, Fred Otto, Jack & Pat Ranttila, Sylvia Jewgieniew, Chuck & Diana Henschel with a match from the L & B Company, Jim Testa, Larry Fritz, Glenn Spachman, Kay Whitlock, Frank Holthouse, John Kearns and Nicholas Walny. We can still accept donations $$ for us to purchase coats or check out your closets or any resale shops in your neighborhood. Any questions? patranttila@gmail.com We need volunteers to help on both days (note times on the chart below). If you are available to join us, let us know. Your checks can be made out to Rotary Club of Chicago-O'Hare Foundation. As an incentive, any Club member contributing $100 or more will be eligible for “Paul Harris recognition points.” Any questions, ask Pat or Jack Ranttila.
****Thank you to all of our My Joyful Santas for fulfilling of some Christmas requests from the children at the Grand Family Apartments. You have selected a card(s) with a child's name and three of their requests. Purchase any or all and place unwrapped in a gift bag with the request card attached. My Joyful Heart will also add their regular gift items (shampoo, lotions, toothcare items, gloves, scarf, etc.) We need to deliver our items to My Joyful Heart by the latter part of November, so bring your gifts by Thursday, November 15th. Thank you so much for supporting this project!! As an incentive, any Club member contributing $100 or more will be eligible for “Paul Harris recognition points.” Save your receipts and submit to Dave Woodcock, Foundation Chair. Any questions, ask Pat Ranttila.
****Thank you for your help! Chicago – O'Hare Rotary Club will provide funding to My Joyful Heart to purchase winter coats for children in their winter coat program. The cost of the coats is unchanged from last year (Operation Warm) with $20 per coat, sold in packs of six for $120. Checks should be payable to: Rotary Club of Chicago-O'Hare Foundation. Any donation amount is appreciated. As an incentive, any Club member contributing $100 or more will be eligible for “Paul Harris recognition points.” Any questions, check with Ed Jacob.
