The Rotary Club of Chicago -O'Hare

meets weekly at 12:00 noon

The Great Escape in Schiller Park IL

*****On Thursday, May 3, 2018, the Rotary Club of Chicago O'Hare will welcome Professor Jerry Goldman, from Northeastern Illinois University, speaking aboutSandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg: Pioneers on Different Paths”

Professor Goldman spoke to our members in November and many asked for him to return to continue his presentation. This talk will examine the similarities and differences in the paths that led O’Connor and Ginsburg to the nation’s highest court. O’Connor — the first woman appointed to the Supreme Court — and Ginsburg — the second woman so appointed — shared experiences and crossed paths but each has left a different impact on the law. Our Foundation Board of Directors will meet at 11:00 AM at the Great Escape. Join us for lunch and the end of the story!

*****Important Request!! Now is the time to start donating raffle and silent auction items for the Jack Frawley Memorial Golf Outing – Chicago O'Hare Rotary on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington IL. This fundraiser is our biggest and best for scholarships for Leyden High Schools. Our Club expects every member to donate time, raffle items and support for this event. Mike Plichta, Chair of the event, would like you to email him with your donation information and bring any items to Pat Ranttila at our Club meetings. michael.plichta@prospectair.com Larry Fritz will handle the Manna Scrip cards if you choose to buy those for your donation. Check with Larry for his next ordering. Thank you for your efforts to make this our best!!

*****Earth Day 2018 Just in time for Earth Day our Club has donated $175, to be matched by our District 6450, to “Plants with a Purpose” agency who will plant trees in one of eight International countries. In deforested areas this will provide income, food and community connection for the residents of these communities. Ian Riseley, International President, “Trees are good for us. They absorb carbon and release oxygen, they support biodiversity, they improve our soil, our climate, and our moods. While not an area of focus, the environment is a physical reality that underpins every area of Rotary's work. Opening our thinking to environmental issues means moving from a mindset of reaction, to one of prevention.” Thank you to our members for our collection and to the Board for supporting this International initiative.
