The Rotary Club of Chicago -O'Hare
meets weekly at 12:00 noon
The Great Escape in Schiller Park IL
*****On Thursday, February 23, 2017, the Rotary Club of Chicago O'Hare will welcome Bob Chimis speaking about the Greater Chicago Food Depository which is Chicago’s food bank. They provide food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. They do this in partnership with 700 agencies and programs including pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and responses for children, older adults and veterans. This network distributes food where it is needed most throughout Cook County. Since 1979, the Food Depository has made a daily impact on hunger across Cook County. Last year, the Food Depository distributed 70 million pounds of food, 35% of which was fresh produce. Every day we distribute the equivalent of 160,000 meals. The Club Board will meet this week at 11:00 AM with lunch following at 12:00 noon at The Great Escape. Please join us!
*****The Inspirational Eagle Award Dinner and Ceremony will be held at East Leyden High School on Tuesday, February 21, 2016 at 6:00 PM in the Nardini Library. We thank Frank Holthouse who has been working this year to make this an evening to remember for not only the students and parents, but also for our club. We are the hosts for the event and will be seated with each family. Any questions: Pat Ranttila cell 847-648-1177
*****Our Club's 2nd Annual HoopsMania fundraiser from 1/26/17–3/16/17 The goal has been set for each member to sell at least 10 tickets at $20 each for which you will get your allotment this Thursday. When selling, make sure that the buyer completes on the stub portion of the ticket and return it to Cruz with the money. She will be at our weekly meetings to collect the stubs and money as tickets are being sold. She will have extras in case anyone wants to sell more -- let her know by Tuesday how many you want and she'll get them to you at the following Thursday's meeting. Every ticket sold means more $$$ for “doing good for the world!!” Cruz: albano.cruz@comcast.net The following information describes how each ticket holder can win:
Each game card is randomly assigned 8 teams (2 from each region) that will play in college
basketball’s national championship tournament. The teams are represented by their seed numbers
and regions in the tournament. To play the game, participants simply add up all the points scored by
their 8 teams throughout the tourney. The top 45 and bottom 4 scoring game cards all win prizes!
*****Thanks to Bobby Jensen, Ed Marcus and Jack Ranttila for their hard work this past week on the Airline Surplus Project. They moved and transported 1000 United blankets to My Joyful Heart in Mokena IL. Bobby moved many cases of 1st Class pajamas and slippers from American Airlines to our warehouse ready for distribution. With Club member Felix Matlock coordinating the process, our Club will be supplying Mercy Housing Lakefront residents with amenity kits and blankets. The work on that will begin next month.
