The Rotary Club of Chicago -O'Hare

meets weekly at 12:00 noon

The Great Escape in Schiller Park IL

*****On Thursday, November 2, 2017, the Rotary Club of Chicago O'Hare will welcome Leon Mangum, Program Director from Operation Support Our Troops – America. Their mission is to support the morale and well-being of American forces by providing comfort, resources and education to them and their families both while they are deployed in harm’s way and after their return. As a volunteer-based non-profit organization, they provide the opportunity for our community members to express their appreciation and also offer support for our troops. Engaged in the longest war of our country’s history and with our servicemen and women completing multiple tours of duty, we are committed to showing them that "We Have NOT Forgotten." Our Club Foundation Board will meet at 11:00 AM at the Great Escape on Thursday. Please attend this Nov 2 Rotary Club meeting not only for the camaraderie, Happy Bucks stories, the speaker, and Rotary updates, but also for the **raffle**. The raffle pot now stands at $3,252 with only 14 cards to go. Do you feel lucky?

Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor,

summer an oil painting, and autumn a mosaic of them all.

*****Each year our Club has supplied a Webster's Encyclopedic Dictionary and pencils to 409 third-graders from seven elementary schools and some to My Joyful Heart. The schools we support are: John F. Kennedy, North, Passow, Pietrini, St. Maria Goretti, Rosemont and St. Cyrian. Thank you to all of those members who stayed after our meeting to adhere “Four Way Test” name plates in each dictionary. Each of these schools needed their dictionaries to be delivered so we thank our Club members for connecting with the schools for that – Kay Whitlock, Larry Fritz, Cruz Bernal-Albano, Sylvia Jewgieniew, Anne Laredo, Pat and Jack Ranttila. Thanks for making a difference!!

*****It is not too early to think about the Holiday Season 2017 for three of our charities.

****Mercy Housing Lakefront Grand Family Apartments continue to need our support. We would like to continue to give a gift to each of ten grandmothers with several gift cards to help stretch their meager budgets for the holidays. These need to be in the denomination of $25 from Target, Walmart or Walgreens. Larry Fritz, our beloved Scrip (Manna) Chair, will order for us with a financial benefit coming back to the Club. 1fritzlaw@att.net

****In mid-November the Hines VA Hospital Veteran Stand Down will be held at Humboldt Park Armory. Each year our Club has gathered men's winter coats for these homeless vets. The sizes should be from Large – XXXL. No leather or ladies coats will be accepted. Check out your closets or any resale shops in your neighborhood. Any questions? John Kearns jwkearns@hotmail.com

****My Joyful Heart has asked if we could help My Joyful Santa with fulfilling of some Christmas requests from some of the children at the Grand Family Apartments. We had every child's request card chosen at our meeting. Purchase any or all of those requests and place unwrapped in a gift bag with the request card attached. My Joyful Heart will also add MJH's regular gift items (shampoo, lotions, toothcare items, gloves, scarf, etc.) We need to deliver our items to My Joyful Heart by mid-November, so bring your gifts by Thursday, November 16th for us to get that delivery made. Thank you so much for supporting this project!!

Double double, toil and trouble,

Fire burn and caldron bubble,

Eye of newt and toe of frog,

Wool of bat and tongue of dog,

By pricking of my thumbs

something wicked this way comes.
