*****Important Request!! Now is the time to start donating raffle and silent auction items for the Jack Frawley Memorial Golf Outing – Chicago O'Hare Rotary on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington IL. This fundraiser is our biggest and best for scholarships for Leyden High Schools. Our Club expects every member to donate time, raffle items and support for this event. Mike Plichta, Chair of the event, would like you to email him with your donation information and bring any items to Pat Ranttila at our Club meetings. michael.plichta@prospectair.com Larry Fritz will handle the Manna Scrip cards if you choose to buy those for your donation. *****Another great Rotary District 6450 Conference was held this past week-end! Our Club was represented by Mike Sullivan, Fred Otto, Jack Ranttila, Sylvia Jewgieniew, Dave Woodcock, and Pat Ranttila. Conference highlights included amazing & inspiring talks by Father Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina Catholic Church in Chicago; Pat Sullivan, former basketball coach of University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL; Mark Balla, World Sanitation Advocate; and Brenda Myers-Powell, co-founder of The Dreamcatcher Foundation, Human Trafficking in Chicago. Thanks to Mike Sullivan for an excellent and updated PowerPoint summary of our Club's projects for Club Pride Night at the Conference.
*****Earth Day 2018 Just in time for Earth Day our Club has donated $175, to be matched by our District 6450, to “Plants with Purpose” agency who will plant trees in one of eight International countries. In deforested areas this will provide income, food and community connection for the residents of these communities. Ian Riseley, International President, “Trees are good for us. They absorb carbon and release oxygen, they support biodiversity, they improve our soil, our climate, and our moods. While not an area of focus, the environment is a physical reality that underpins every area of Rotary's work. Opening our thinking to environmental issues means moving from a mindset of reaction, to one of prevention.” Thank you to our members for our collection and to the Board for supporting this International initiative.
