Congratulations to this year's four scholarship recipients: Eli, Nguyen, Matias and Michelle! Scholarship awards are $2,000 each. With the main objective of Rotary being service, Rotary scholarships are awarded in recognition of high school students for their service in school and in the community, financial need, and academic achievement. 
 
Eliquetzal (Eli) Gutierrez Garcia
Fremont graduate will attend Brigham Young University, plans to major in Political Science. Tutored students in English at her church, helped her mother care for an elderly Alzheimer’s patient. Plans to attend law school after college and become an immigration attorney. DACA recipient.

Nguyen Tran
Fremont graduate will attend UC San Diego, plans to major in Biochemistry. President of Fremont Interact. Organized students to help at the Rotary Crab Feed. Attended RYLA. Volunteered in programs for children in preschool and kindergarten.

Matias Antonio Alvarado
Homestead graduate, will attend Claremont McKenna College, plans to major in Economics and Engineering. Helps collect supplies for battered women’ shelters. Tutors and assists students who are recent immigrants.

Michelle Fung
Homestead graduate, will attend UC Irvine, plans to major in Business Administration. Volunteered at Kaiser hospital and Key Club at Homestead, tutors Chinese-speaking students in English.
