Service Above Self Awards

To recognize and celebrate individuals whose professional lives embody Rotary’s highest ideals, demonstrating ethical leadership, excellence in their vocations, and a commitment to 'Service Above Self.'

 

Vocational Service is one of Rotary’s Five Avenues of Service. It calls on every Rotarian to:

  1. Aspire to high ethical standards in their occupation.
  2. Recognize the dignity and value of all useful occupations.
  3. Use their professional skills to serve others and improve communities.


Two distinct award categories are offered with the following eligibility requirements :

Rotarian Vocational Service Award

Recognizing a Rotarian’s professional excellence and service within Rotary.

  • Nominee must be an active Rotarian in good standing in the Orillia club.
  • Must have at least five (5) consecutive years of Rotary membership.
  • Has provided notable service to Rotary, especially in the area of Vocational Service.
  • Models the Rotary Four-Way Test and embodies the motto 'Service Above Self.'

 

Community Vocational Service Award

Honouring a non-Rotarian whose work positively impacts the community while demonstrating Rotary values.

  • Nominee must not be a member of any Rotary Club.
  • Nominee’s employer/business must be local to the Orillia or immediate surrounding areas (i.e. Severn, Oro-Medonte, Ramara or Rama First Nation).
  • Demonstrates leadership of the highest standard in their profession, trade or occupation.
  • Consistently applies ethical and moral principles in their work.
  • Uses their vocation to make a significant positive impact on the local Orillia community.
  • Embodies Rotary’s ideals through actions that reflect 'Service Above Self.'
