Garth Rice passed away this past weekend.

May 24th - Club will be meeting at R&F Construction for lunch meeting at 73 Paterson Road in Oro, Medonte. In the Forest Home Industrial Sub-Division.

Angela has asked if anyone has some lobsterfest tickets to return as she has some people that would like to go and they are all sold out. What a great job this committee has done and especially Angela managing all tickets sales and Ralph's persistence in ticket reminders. Great job guys.

Fort McMurray - Tony discussed how it all came together last Thursday as a club to help out with donations. The Rotary Club of Orillia, in co-operation with The Bank of Montreal(BMO), now have a vehicle for our community to easily show their support for the folks of Fort McMurray. Arlene Brock, Branch Manager of BMO County Fair Plaza Orillia and a proud Rotarian, pulled out all the stops to set this special account up in a very timely manner. You can now help Rotary help people in need! And this time, that help is needed here in Canada. Here's How: Go to any Bank of Montreal Branch in the World; Ask to donate to the Rotary Club of Orillia's Fort McMurray Relief Fund; You must have the following Information; Transit 2482, Account #8980-682. And simply make your deposit. IT IS THAT EASY!!! Our Rotary Club will provide a Tax Receipt if required. Please provide us with a copy of the the deposit and pertinent info for that receipt. You can also E-transfer to ttelford@live.ca. Now is our opportunity to show that we care and will help. In a matter of 36 hours we have raised committed funds in excess of $30,000 and this is only the start. Please help me, help Rotary to help our fellow Canadians. Never has their need been so great. Thank you to the businesses, organizations and individuals who have donated so far! Challenge your friends and businesses. And thank you to fellow Rotarians Arlene Brock and Marilyn Hansen for assisting me setting this up. The BMO County Fair Plaza Branch is open Monday to Wednesday 9:30-4:00,Thursday-Friday 9:30-6:00, and Saturday 9:30 -1:00. And you can also donate at any Branch with the above information. If you have any Questions please ask. Lets make this happen!!

There was a lot of discussions around how we can donate but the consensus was sending cash right now.

50 50 and Sarge and Happy Bucks

50 50 winners were Nancy Welton and Chris Reason again . Donated back winnings.

SARGE  today was DAVE SHAW

In Ralph's defence he was doing a good deed.Tony for a great initiative but $1 for allowing Ralph to talk and now it becomes a committee meeting, Greg $1 for losing the Beauty contest, Rick $1 for being late.

50 /50 winners Nancy Welton and Chris Reason.

Happy bucks includes Ralph for the City's Tourism strategy which includes funding from the Province and would like anyone to be a part of this strategy for the future of the train at the park and what we can do to make it even better. Don - For the foolish talk on the City Council discussing Chickens being allowed in back yard.

Angela - Her son Evan won the Gold with the Lakers in London, Evan won 1st in the 3000 m run and for Emma's great performance in Rugby.

Guest Speaker : Michael Fredson of Maniticore Books at 103 Mississauga Street, Orillia on  Main Street.

Michael was born in Hamilton, went to the University of Guelph, and moved to Orillia in 2013 with his wife who is a professor at Lakehead University.

Michael has a passion for Retail and books. So much so that he bought the Maniticore  Book Store. He loves this location and how vibrant the downtown has become. The book industry has had a lot of changes and movements in the last 10 years with online buying through Amazon and E books.
The difference in employees  between a small book store and Amazon   over 10 million in sales is 56 employees for small book stores to 13 employees for Amazon.
There has been a huge come back with kids books, and nature books. Digital and audio books account for 15 to 20% of the industry.

Manticore book store has a wide variety of kids books, fiction and non-fiction books, as well as many other variety of books. Michael can always find the book you are looking for if you come in to his store.
