Birthdays and Anniversaries:

Tracey Rynard - Happy Birthday!

Peter has been a Rotarian for 13 years!

News of Rotarians not in attendance:

Cliff mentioned that Rusty is not feeling well.  Get better Rusty!!!!

Yikes I can’t remember who said that Kevin is tending to his ailing cat.  (little bit of a snicker here) but seriously we hope she/he gets better.

Mary Reid has pneumonia.  Ugh!  We are thinking of you Mary….

Announcements:

Laura Nelson : needs a BULLETIN EDITOR FOR THE LAST 2 WEEKS OF DECEMBER…anyone??

Julie Scott : The Charter Christmas Night is coming up December 16!  Sign up sheets were passed around.  There will be a gift exchange like last year.

President Nancy : There will be a Dutch Auction next week so bring your cheque book!  This is an excellent way to get a tax receipt that you may need coming up in tax season.  You bid on tax receipts!  This is a win win and it helps Rotary!

John Hammill: BINGO -  since we have had a few weeks off for elections, sales are down, we need to get back in the black.  Tony, Ralph and John are working on different Points of Sale initiatives.  We are sending out flyers with Businesses like Happy at Home and Helping Hands that have monthly mailings.  They are working on live BINGO at the Legion (not going to lie, I WOULD LOVE THAT!) and commercials on TV for advertising.  We are also advertising in the newspaper and online.

Deb Stephens : asked for anyone with a business who has monthly mailings that would consider putting a Bingo promo within their mailings might come forward.

Don Whitfield : mentioned that there is another charity that has a superior slot on TV than us doing Bingo.  Food for thought.

Tony Telford: We are in the Christmas Parade! This is going to be The Rotary Christmas TV BINGO Float!!!!  Sooooo exciting!!!  ANYONE WHO WANTS TO HELP ON THE FLOAT contact Tony - sure to be fun in itself to help out on that.  Could be a beer drinking sport. (am I allowed to say that?) Kevin will sit on the float, there will be Helium balloons ( I think as bingo balls) a mock camera, 2 big banners, posters and everything can be reused.  We hope to reach out to 5000 people this Sunday.  OH and we need someone to drive the tractor.  Offers were thrown out from Megan, Leanne and Sue.. “pick me!” (sigh…it’s a man’s world still….lol)

Angela Thompson: Our Rotary Club has been approached by the Champlain Seniors to work with the OPP recruits (as there are too many recruits) to help out.  Please contact Angela Thompson for more information.

Dave Shaw : Pia (our exchange student) needs a ride Peterborough for a youth Rotary Night.  Keith offered to give her a ride.

Speaker : Marilyn Hanson introduced Reid Asselstine our own Rotary Member.

Reid is a Chemical Engineer, teacher and secondary school administrator.  He was the District Governor in 2000/2001, Zone 22 Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator for Eastern Canada, Facilitator at the Copenhagen and Salt Lake City Rotary International Conventions, Chair at Canadian Rotary Centennial Committee amongst countless other Initiatives such as: Moderator Rotary Zone 24 & 32 meetings in 2012, 2013, 2014, and is the Recipient of the Rotary Foundation District Service Award.

Reid wanted to know what Rotary means to us?  He wanted us to know that not all of the money we raise goes out of the county.  That we are not the first on the scene of a crisis like the Red Cross but the people who do the follow up work.  He wanted it to be known that Rotarians travel at their own costs, and these are not assumed by the Foundation.

THERE IS THE MILLION DOLLAR DINNER COMING UP MAY 7, 2015 AT THE HOLIDAY INN IN BARRIE, ONTARIO.  INFO AT carolyn.ferguson@rotary.org

The donation to attend the dinner is $ 10 000.00 there are many different ways to accomplish this goal if you are interested please contact Reid.

Marilyn then announced that much of the foundation money received goes to local initiatives for example our own Dean Beers is working on a program to supply carbon monoxide detectors to lower income households that might not be able to afford the safety measure.

President Nancy personally thanked Reid for speaking to us and all his hard work on behalf of Rotary.

Don’t forget next week’s Dutch Auction!

Adjourned!
