Announcements:

Carl sent his wishes and feels bad that it is getting cold here.
Don has been moved to Toronto Rehab Institute and is making progress.
Laura announced that Breakfast Television is coming to Fern Resort to film on Monday, February 22nd from 6 am to 9 am.  Laura invited anyone who would like to participate to come out to Fern (they won't have many guests left on a Monday morning and need bodies).  Please contact Laura if you would like to attend.
Angela announced that International Student Weekend is quickly approaching and she needs a few more host families.  Please contact Angela if you are interested in hosting a student for the weekend.
Kevin is participating and raising funds for the Coldest Night of the Year event.  He has pledged for every dollar that he is able to raise through donations, he will match dollar for dollar.  In addition, Campus Living Centres is also matching what Kevin raises dollar for dollar.  Please contact Kevin to help him reach his goals for this worthy cause.
Nancy asked for a show of hands for members interested in holding our social event at Fern on February 24th instead of February 17th due to the fact that our regular lunch meeting scheduled for February 23rd is being cancelled for International Student Weekend.  A majority of the members were in favour of that so, a list was circulated to sign up for the social event to be held at Fern Resort on Wednesday February 24th from 6 to 10 pm.  Event begins with dinner at 6 followed by skating, bonfire, or just socializing inside.  If you would like to attend and missed signing the sign-up sheet, please contact either Julie Scott or Nancy Amos.
President Tony reinforced the importance of Bras for a Cause and how many people we are able to assist through that initiative.
Neil announced a Cocktail Party being held at the Casino Rama on February 26th from 7 to 10 pm benefiting Dress for Success.  Anyone wishing more information about this event or for tickets, contact Neil McKendry.
A PR Committee Meeting is being held on Tuesday February 16th after the Satellite Club meeting at the Mariposa Inn. The focus of this meeting is promoting Lobsterfest.  The meeting is open to all who wish to participate.
A GNO Wrap Up meeting is being held on Tuesday February 23rd after the Satellite Club meeting at the Mariposa Inn.
A Special Projects meeting is being held on Thursday February 25th at 7:30 am at the Curling Club.

50 50 and Sarge and Happy Bucks

50/50

1st  Doug Langman

2nd Bob Sutherland

Greg Parker is Sergeant at Arms and offered immunity on fines for the day... pay $1 and be immune from fines the rest of the meeting....there were some takers but I did not catch who they were.  Guilty minds...

Fines were:

Laura for shameful self-promotion

Keith for shorting the pot on his duck buck...or should I say his 80 cents.  Bring lots of change next week Keith.

Dean for teasing the Sgt about being late and subjecting himself to a fine (better look at the duty roster next time Dean before commenting ).

Frances and Nancy W were both fined for forgetting to put their badges on.

President Tony for screwing up on the 4 way test and having his mind somewhere else....hmmm

Julie Emery for not buying Greg a drink at the bar on their trip to Florida....hmmmm

Neil for not requesting to make an announcement and pouncing at Tony to beg for him to allow Neil to make an announcement.

Happy Bucks

A few Happy bucks were collected from various Rotarians.

Angela had a happy buck for her niece, Alex winning first place for the Public Speaking Contest.

Frances was happy to make it to the meeting.  She also was happy about the upcoming ASSIST Training which is a 2 day workshop open for public participation - contact Frances to reserve space.

Tony A. was happy that his sister's kid (so, that would be his niece) came through a successful kidney operation due to cancer.

Dave Shaw was happy to be at the meeting and looking very well, I might add.

Dean was happy to see Dave back and looking so well.  Many people shared this sentiment and threw in happy bucks.

Andrew was happy about the fundraiser in which he is participating for Habitat for Humanity - the polar dip on Sunday.  Good Luck Andrew!

President Tony is happy to be going to a play in Toronto.  He left it up to the group to guess which play.

Trivia Corner
FEBRUARY 1992: – Historical date Rotary Club of Orillia’s history! Two lady members welcomed and inducted as members - Dale Bernard and Josephine Martensson. Presently, our membership consists of 20 ladies (33%).

Sadly, we lost Dale to cancer a few weeks ago, she did, however, serve as club president not only in our club 1998, also the morning club.

Another Orillia lady member went on to becoming district governor – Marilyn Hanson 2013-14

Program

President Tony asked Dean Beers why he joined Rotary.  Dean indicated he joined Rotary to get more involved in the community through a service club and chose Rotary (I tried to capture the essence of what you said, Dean but you were much more eloquent).
President Tony warned members that he would be asking random members to talk about why they joined Rotary in future meetings so, think about it and come prepared.

It was student of the month and we learned about the three students who were chosen from each of the three high schools.

For Patrick Fogarty, Teacher Bill Bazinet introduced student Heidi Hayes.
For Orillia Secondary School, Teacher Kirsten Artichuk introduced student Tori Gunnerson
For Twin Lakes Secondary School, Teacher Barry McCann introduced student Katie Couvrette.
