Our Guest Speaker this week was the Bruce Stanton, our M.P.
Bruce is a former member of our club from 1996-2002. This is his 9th year as MP. He is the Assistant deputy speaker of the House of commons. He is also a commercial pilot. Bruce then joined the Washago centennial club and is now an honorable member due to his official parliamentary role. He is very aware of the effectiveness of RI in the world.
Bruce spoke of the comings and goings in the "House". There are 308 members in the H of C. Some of the "theatrical heckling". He enjoys getting out and around to meet the people in this area. 30% of voters make their Party decision 10 days prior to the election day. Our area had 65% voter turnout in the last election, which is 5% higher than the national average.
This year it is the 150th anniversary of the charter discussions re: Canada's constitution--2017 is the actual 150th anniversary of our constitution.
