Tom introduced Master Swimmer Dave Town of Orillia, he’s a 3rd generation Orillian who owns and operates a Chiropractic Clinic in town.   Dave’s grandfather Duncan was a Rotarian President in 1948!

Dave gave us a lively account of Walter Knox, a Champion Athlete of Orillia.  Walter took 3rd place as The Greatest Athlete in 1/2 Century in 1951.  He was an award winning racer, in 1907 beat 5 of the defending Canadian Champions in their own specialty sports of shot put, pole vault, etc. as well as his own sport of racing.

He discovered a gold mine and became very wealthy but never gave up on sports, he promoted and funded boys sports in many schools and became an advocate for women getting involved in sports.  And he was quite a character.  What a great story teller Dave was!

Ken Boyd thanked Dave for a great job and presented him with a donation to Polio Plus.

President Nancy also thanked Dave.  And next week’s meeting will be Reid talking about the Foundation.

Rusty will take over Anne’s duties as greeter next week.

Adjourned!
