Doug organized a successful pitch in street cleanup and welcomed everyone back to his place after to rest up with food and drink .
We had Julie back as Sarge duty today and being the sweetheart she is, just asked if those who didn't help with Doug's pitch in crew to please pay 25 cents if they didn't mind. And she was glad she didn't have to fine the 50-50 winners because they both donated their winnings back to foundation ( she really doesn't enjoy fining people the way some of the other sarges do. ) Whoever is on duty in May will probably not be as nice as Julie

Cliff Introduced our speaker : Peter Coleman , President and CEO of the National Citizens Coalition , one of Canada's largest advocacy groups , founded in 1967
Peter brought a slide show presentation with which he reviewed many facts and statistics that we as citizens should know. The coalition has been instrumental in helping western farmers win the freedom to opt out of the wheat board, and in forcing the review of significant federal budgets such as the CBC. He credited the fed government with the fact that it has taken the country's 55 billion dollar deficit towards what this year should be a surplus and with achieving one of the best economical performances in the G7 group. The coalition is interested in promoting senate reform but knows it will be a significant challenge. On the provincial side, we in Ontario have a much worse situation to deal with having a very large provincial debt and running deficits. The coalition will no doubt be lobbying whichever party is chosen to run the province in the next election.
