Sarge and Happy Bucks

Sarge to-day was Dean and he started off fining our favorite finee,  Ralph .  He did as often the case have an honourable excuse but as usual pays his fine graciously.  Dean followed this off with a support for Angela's volunteer recruitment efforts by giving well deserved fines to all who have not yet taken or signed up this summer for a train shift. And of course the birthday table pitched in with their contribution.

The theme for today was party happiness with Laura, Anne and Tony raving about the big Hootenanny at the Telford Farm . Sounds like there happy bucks included a hint of penance. Anne also had a good time at a Just for Laughs, evening and Marilyn added her other weekend activities including a big win at a poker completion and a nature walk in Grant's Woods. Doug Langman had a more serious happy buck because he was called out of last weeks lunch to deal with a dangerous grass fire approaching his home but the happiness part of the story is that there was a large contingent of Oro volunteer firefighters who showed up and put the fire out.

Program
Michael Christie is Asistant District Governor and his home club is Collingwood Georgian Bay

He brings greetings from district governor  Margaret Walton RC Bracebridhge,  as well as current news for our district.

Michael grew up in a rotary family as his dad joined when Michael was a young boy and now he himself has been with rotary for 16 years. His Dad was introduced to rotary as a visitor to a rotary fireside meeting in Wadertown and actually made a connection which saw him purchase a clothing business as well as join the club.

His position of Ass. District Gov. has the job of acting as liaison between clubs and Rotary International Administration so he is a go to guy.  Also he has the task of ensuring training is available for incoming club presidents.

News includes that ton April 8th next year will be a major rotary anniversary.  that is 100 years since the creation of Rotary Foundation. No doubt there will be announcements in the future for events to mark the occasion.  Also there will be a district friendship exchange with New Zealand in 2017. Again there will be more details to be announced but consider taking this worthwhile  opportunity if you can.

Upcoming is the district conference  this fall in our own lake district, Oct 27 to 30  and there are still rooms available at the hotel Marriat if you have not yet booked. District Governor Margaret has adopted a motto for us for the coming year which is "putting it together in unique ways"

Consider planning also for the international conference in 2017 at Atlanta, USA  and then another opportunity in Toronto in 2018.

Also members within our district are encouraged to consider joining the district team in one of thre new positions opening up,this year. They are: Interact Chair, Vocational services and Insurance Liaison.
