Some Dues have become slow in coming in to our treasure so check to see if you are behind and if so please bring a cheque to Cliff
Next Tuesday, March 31st, there will be two meetings. Our regular lunch meeting where we will be having committee reports for our Club Assembly, and the Fireside meeting at 5:30 at the Grape & Olive in conjunction with the Satellite Club where we will be brainstorming on new fundraisers.
Greg Parker came prepared with his little list and started enthusiastically reprimanding Marilyn for taking Randy's seat and although it was unintended it did upset poor Randy so much that it came with a $2 fine. He continued with fines for Megan's phone ringing during O Canada and there were a couple of other delinquencies that she was feeling guilty about yet was excused by Greg as long as she paid $1 for the first offense. Greg carried on fining our lady members by catching Julie singing annoyingly in our guests speakers ear, Jayne for arriving late and Barb for winning 50 50. Then just to balance things out he fined Neil $5 for commenting that our Sarge should probably try bowling seeing as his golfing is so bad.
Happy Bucks
Marilyn is happy to share that Bob has had successful cataract surgery and now can boast 20 20 vision. Tracy is happy to have brought her girl guide cookies with her today and will be able to supply anyone who wants to support her girls. Keith is pleased to report that all of the new Solar Power sites are up and running smoothly. Our guest James Maxwell is happy to see the promotion Rotary gives to Big Brothers Big Sisters and that we are sending a bowling team . Tony Telford is happy that he got away without a fine today and that his daughter has enrolled in Chiropractic School and That he has enjoyed a relaxing vacation in Meico.
James Maxwell is the head of Orillia`s Big Brothers and Big Sisters and was introduced by his friend and ours Ralph Cipolla.
We learnt that the national organisation of Big Brothers started in Canada in 1913 and in Orillia in 1966 so a 50th anniversary is coming up. In 1977 Big Sisters joined with Big Brothers and together they have been making a positive difference to the lives of many young people though mentoring and guidance. James is proud of the many instances where those who have been in the program have grown up to become successful in their careers and to become citizens who in turn help others by their own contributions to community. Last year, in Orillia, Big Brothers and Big Sisters helped 352 children but there are even more who have applied and have not yet been matched up so there is a need for adults , Men and women 18 to 108 to volunteer as mentors. Whenever a young person is helped there is always a significant return in benefits not only to the young person and his or her mentor but to our community through their future contributions to society.
