Brain P. advised that $85 was taken in for the day (apparently some serious gamblers in the crowd). This would bring total pot over $700. Angela was this week’s winner, but didn’t draw the 9 of Clubs to cash-in.
Satellite Meeting:
Tony T. won but some how he ended up with an empty bag and Cathleen got the money!
Tony T. for asking Angel if she was moving out (just because she brought her suitcase into meeting)
Bev D. for checking up on her father by asking him when he got home
SAA gave Angela T. opportunity to fine male Rotarian; Dave S.was singled out for likely not knowing the correct words to O’Canada, but Dave then demonstrated his patriotic knowledge with a perfect recital of the words
Nancy W. fined Tom B for his not-so-prompt phone answering
Angela T. saw nephew married in Kingston and then made a new friend when she offered a woman ride from Kingston to Ottawa because train (that her son was going to take) was cancelled . Apparently the woman was captive to a Rotary filibuster all the way to Ottawa.
Mark S. is finally able to make it. Took out a gross carpet (no more carpet burns)
Scott 100 day till Christmas just bring us down. Great Job Scott!

Student of the Month Program. Since Wendy McQuaig resigned we have been looking for someone to take over ownership of the Student of the Month program. Dave S. quantified the job as 11 emails each month. There was discussion about rotating the responsibility (e.g. 2month stints). Bev Dickson came to the rescue and volunteered to take over the program!
District Conference Oct 18-20
New Member – Beverley Dickson inducted. Club membership now at 60.
Snowflake Race Series. This is a series of 4 running races (Dec thru Jan) with a long history in Orillia. The last few years the series has been run by Rotaract and last year it raised close to $6000 for the FoodBank. It may be in jeopardy of cancellation. Michael Taylor’s son was prime organizer last year and needs to be contacted to see about any plans/status for this year. If Rotaract is no longer operational, could our club take over the Snowflake races ?
Next week Cocktail Group’s meeting is at 371 Brewery Lane - Pot Luck. Please advise Tammy L. if you are going and what food you might be bringing

Satellite Meeting:
Trent Mayers, Wine Journeys
Trent was completing his Oriilia Rotary coverage and after having spoken to the Lunch Group earlier in the month, was here to educate the rest of the club about Wine and wine ratings.
Editors Note: The following notes are repeated from when Trent spoke to Lunch Meeting on Sept 3rd
Trent is a wine writer, educator, & scientist. He holds an MSc in microbiology and through his company, Wine Journeys, hosts public, charity, and private wine tasting events. He also writes about wine for Look Local Barrie and The Briar Crier.
Trent spoke about wine ratings and afterwards responded to questions.
His 2 fundamental Rules re: wine ratings:
The true rating is your own – good wine is wine you like
Choose and drink wine for its style (ref. description), not for it’s rating
There are multiple rating scales, 100 pt. scale is probably the best known, but it has a high degree of subjectivity. But regardless of the rating system and how objective it may appear, rating wine is very subjective.
