Opening: A larger attendance certainly does make our National Anthem and our Rotary Grace sound much more impressive.
Guests: continuing with our candidates for the October 19th election, Michael Perry the NDP candidate and his assistant Devin Cross were introduced and later on in the meeting Jamie Schmale the Conservative Candidate was introduced.
Humorist Charlie shared a delightful joke which began with 2 states of a person’s health, you can either be well or sick and it developed from there.
Duty Roster for next week, October 5th

Business: There were several important messages presented. Next week Carl Dickson will be our special guest and he will speak on the Rotary Wheel and the meaning and traditions behind the history of it right up until the recent changes.
Lynda, provided some updated information about Rotanza. The first prize will be a Mustang or $25,000 cash. There will be 750 tickets printed at the same price of $120. The event will be held at the Fairgrounds on Friday May 5th. There will be lots of activities going on throughout the evening and you are encouraged to help us get some really unique and exciting silent auction items. Please inform Carol, Danielle, Marlene or even Lynda or I if you have some ideas for auction items.
Marlene informed us of the Tibetan dinner which will take place on October 24th.There will also be a bazaar of beautiful Tibetan crafts and items including their gorgeous rugs. Dr. Losang Rabgey will be a speaker at Rotary on Oct. 26th. Marlene will be able to supply you with answers to any questions you may have and tickets for the event.
Both Pres. John C and John B. provided information for the Seniors Got Talent Event at the Academy. This is a Fundraiser for the Academy Theatre and will take place twice on Friday October 2nd. There will be a box lunch provided at 11:00 with the entertainment and in the evening there will be a 2 hour show with a draw for a large screen TV donated by Kennedy’s. The performances will be organized by Jim Brown a well known choir director and event organizer in the area and my Grade 8 teacher and my Teacher’s College Music teacher!!! A very creative gentleman. Please contact Maria for more info and if you are interested in the $20.00 tickets. I believe tickets are also available from the Theatre box office.
Door prize draw donated by Barb Swain and won by Blair Bailey
50/50 Draw: we need a drum roll. Barb Swain had a chance to draw from the deck for the elusive joker but it didn’t happen so the pot increases and the cards decrease. The pot now is over $1500 and I believe we are at 6 cards or maybe less.
Fine master Ron was busy collecting Blue Jays happy bucks!
John Coxon was at the game, Ian has 4 tickets for the 2nd playoff game for his daughters. I questioned who was paying for them to get here from Calgary. Bernie had been at the game and knowing Bernie he likely has plans for a few more and Blair had a happy buck for the Jays. Also connected in a way Dan received a Josh Donaldson shirt for his birthday which he celebrated with 2 of his daughters.
On to other bucks: Jim had 3 happy bucks, 1 for his mother-in-law who is happy to be home at the Ross after her hip/femur surgery. 1 for finally finishing the painting of his exterior walls of his house ( no he is not for hire) and 1 because wife Jan returns home Thursday. Maybe she won’t recognize her house!
Lynda is happy because she will have her new grand baby at her house for 2 days.
John Bennett has the 2016 Diner’s Club meal plan brochures for $20.00. They are quite a deal and check with John.
Barb a return buck (that’s almost a weekly buck). She didn’t say where she returned from this time and a happy buck to celebrate hubbie Ron’s 80th birthday.
Bert: a happy buck for the great Hospital that the Ross is and something about a special announcement. I think it is a secret.
Guest Mike Perry: a happy buck for a balanced budget
Teresa: a happy buck because her husband is returning home form Minnesota
Marlene: happy to have Mike as a speaker and happy to have Danielle and Carol pull together a silent auction committee for Rotanza
Ron’s fine ….a buck fine if you haven’t purchased a ticket to one of the Seniors entertainment events being held this Friday.
Guest Speakers: Marlene introduced Michael Perry and later Pres. John introduced Jamie Schmale. Both gentleman are well qualified candidates and provided detailed brochures with information as to their goals and priorities for the future and for their parties. Contact information was available on both the hand outs they provided. I do not feel it necessary to redo what they have all ready provided and they are more than willing to address any questions you may have and want to contact them about. I was impressed by the eloquent way Ron expressed our appreciation to each speaker thanking them for taking it upon themselves to run in the campaign.
