Guest Speaker: President John introduced Carl Dixon who is a former President of the Rotary Club of Orillia and former District Governor of District 7010, who continues to be very involved with Rotary. Carl Dixon made a very informative, interesting and vivid presentation which included a video clip. We learnt of Paul Harris’s childhood and young days and how he became a lawyer and went out into the business world, when he began Rotary. He began with “Association of Rotary Clubs”, which grew to become the “International Association of Rotary” and now is “Rotary International.” Interestingly we learnt that the first Club in our District was established in 1921. It was the Peterborough Rotary Club. The second, was our club which was set up in 1922, a few months before “Rotary International” came into being! The video also presented a summary of the history of our club.  In answer to a question Mr. Dixon described the latest position regarding the elimination of Polio from the face of the earth!

Al Cripps thanked Mr. Dixon and said that our club will be making a contribution to “Polio Plus” in his name.

There being no other business for the good of Rotary, President John closed the meeting.
