Bert Lauwers, the CEO of ROSS Memorial Hospital since 2013, made a very interesting and informative presentation of his life, especially mentioning his work as a Coroner and his involvement in the coroner-service world, He touched briefly on specific cases such as exonerating a man who had been wrongfully imprisoned for several years and the tragic story of a distant First Nations community where several teenagers were killing themselves by hanging. He also mentioned the present crisis where funding for Health Services is dwindling rapidly. As a result, measures such as Grouping of hospital services and moving the care of seniors from institutions to providing Community Care in their own homes are being considered.
Lynda Rickard thanked Bert for his presentation and said that a donation to Polio Plus would be made in his name.
There being no other business for the good of Rotary, President John closed the meeting.
