Next week: Induction of Brodie McMorrow as a corporate member. 
The speaker will be Bob Hunter representing the management company at the Lindsay Airport.  He and Kirk Billings are interested in hearing our questions and opinions about services at our airport.  (if you will not be attending, email your questions to another club member to present at the meeting)
“Showcase 2016” will be held May 12 at Fenelon Falls Community Centre/Rotary Club Plan to attend.

 Traditional Case Manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters spoke in regards to the growing need for mentors (predominantly male) in the City of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton. Paul touched on one to one mentoring opportunities available in our community and the significant impact for social return on investment.
Budget:  20% Grants etc.        80% fundraised

Some Stats:
Of the Children who are mentored...
17% are more likely to be employed
13% higher earnings ($315,000 higher lifetime income)
63% have post-secondary education

96% say they’re happy
13% more likely to donate to charity

Social investment in our community
For every dollar that is invested in the Big Brothers Big Sisters, the returns are $18 to society (via increased taxes & spending from higher income + increased volunteering & donations).   Note:  Among economically disadvantaged groups, $1 invested in mentoring by Big Brothers Big Sisters returns $23 to society.
Currently have over 60 matches in CKL.  Waiting list of over 65 children – 45 of those are boys!
 
Fundraisers:
Wing Fest – supported by local restaurants - happening January 30th at the Armoury. Tickets are available at Kennedy’s on William St. S. and at Big Brothers and Sisters office or by calling 705-324-6800
 
Bowl for Kids – their largest fundraiser
 
What do the children want from Mentors?  Just your time!!!
The BBBS In-school mentoring program does not run during the summer, but the one-on-one program does and they also have a one-week kids/cops camp program
 
Time commitment can be a minimum of 1 hour a week.
Mentorship program averages a long time...8 years or longer.
