Opening: Our lunch began in the usual manner with the O’Canada, Rotary Grace and our toast to Queen and Canada
Guests: Sgt. at Arms Adam: recognized Rohan’s brother who joined us for a second week and it is wonderful to see him back again.
Duties for next week: Sgt at Arms; Marcus Tully and John Hagarty
Thanker and Fine master: Ron Cork
Greeter and Prize: Barb Swain
Humorist: Charlie
Dom shared a humorus joke about the true meaning of HST.
Business: John Bennett informed us that the profit from Shred Day was $1100 with still some possibly to come in and a donation of $400 was made to Kinsmen on top of that.
John Hunter (notice I used his full last name after last week’s bungle), anyway John wants everyone to be aware of the Friends of Sir Sanford Fleming 100 mile dinner. John is a member of the College Board and tickets are available through him. The dinner is October 5th between 5-7:30 and involves as well a tour of the College. If you have never seen the College it is well worth the visit.
Doorprize: donated by Derek was won by Carol.
Fine master: Jim Mackey who it seems has been wearing many hats lately took over his duties
Dan: had a couple of happy bucks as he enjoyed the District Conference in Sudbury and anticipates that next year’s event at Lake Rosseau will be equally interesting and well attended. He brought back the traditional feather to recognize Peter Milner’s passing. This is a meaningful celebration that takes place on the Sunday of the Conference. Dan then went to Manitoulin Island to see a building named after his father. Next in his travels was a Jay’s game.
*Just a note to new members, if you have never attended a Conference, I believe you get in for half price.
Dom had a happy buck because he spent 4 very interesting days at a Canadian Tire Meeting in Toronto. Apparently there are lots of great new products which will soon be on the shelves.
Jill: dressed in appropriate working attire is in the process of moving Hospice to 2 Kent St W and is very excited about the prospect. Hospice had outgrown its home on McLaughlin.
Lynda: had lots of fun at the Port Hope Fair in a “51 meteor and got rained out at the NASCAR races. She also had a scooter buck, busy with Election matters.
Rohan was happy to have his visiting brother attend Rotary for the second week.
John Hagarty had a happy buck because he was pleased that Inspector Mitchell won the Burger Day 50/50. He also had a buck to express concern about my message to him to explain sleeping with an 85 year old. I had discovered the information in my notes beside the name John H. Yes, we have 2 John H’s. I am somewhat wiser now and not sure how his beautiful wife Deb would have taken the message.
Ian: had a happy buck after seeing a winning Jay’s game. Let’s hope there are not too many of the other kind.
Jim: looking forward to wife Jan’s arrival back Oct 1st from her trip to various different locations.
He also had a happy buck to acknowledge how well his mother-in-law was managing after her hip and femur surgery.
50/50: ace of spades drawn by Jim. Now 6 cards left and the Pot stands at $1458
REMINDER: There will be a meeting of all those involved with the Rotanza Committee at 11:00 next Monday the 28th in order to make some major decisions. We want to get the license so the tickets can be printed and out to all of you early!!! Let’s get some really creative silent auction items. Please let Danielle or Carol or Lynda or I know if you have something in mind.
