August 1 was a very special day for Park Ridge Rotary Club members as they hosted 6 of their 10 scholarship winners for 2013-14. This year’s applicants were particularly strong, making the committee’s choices especially challenging. Committee Chairwoman Linda Hanlon spoke of the great satisfaction she feels in providing a bit of financial assistance to such worthy young people, and committee member Vlad Zherenovsky urged all recipients to use the training and skills in their college years to do good in the world; we are supremely confident that they will do well.

Before distributing the checks, AG Stuart Gold highlighted some of Rotary’s many attributes and avenues of service, encouraging all of the young people to take advantage of one or more of the programs that RI provides.

Recipients then were called to the podium to introduce themselves. From Immaculate Heart Academy was Dana Scheffler, a Montvale resident who will be going to St. Michael’s College in Vermont to major in Environmental Science and Film Production. From Pascack Hills High School was Amanda Tosi, a Montvale resident headed for The College of William and Mary where she plans on majoring in Kineseology with a minor in Spanish.

Graduates from Park Ridge High School receiving scholarships were Carson Badame, attending Marist College in NY and majoring in Computer Science and Music, Kimberly Conroy, on her way to the University of Tampa to major in Advertising and Public Relations, Jaclyn Mital, off to Johnson and Wales University to major in Fashion Merchandising, and Nicole Southard who will be majoring in Art Education with a specialization in Art Therapy at Marywood University in Pennsylvania.

We wish them well in all future endeavors and look forward to hearing of their many expected successes.
