Tomorrow’s meeting: Zoom! Login info is below. April 1, 2020 Based on notes sent by Frank Towner and Joanne Lamoureux Handwashing was a hot topic in the last newsletter I sent out. That was a month ago. Only one month ago. No one should be surprised that Rotarians were scrambling to get the word out about basic hand hygiene way ahead of everyone else. Joe Cassaniti and Heidi Goldstein have been taking hand washing to our elementary schools for a few years, and countless members of our Club have supported, promoted, and worked along side of hand washing and clean water projects across the globe. Add in Polio Plus, and you have a local and international network of blue and gold boots in the mud and dust; volunteers with decades of cumulative experience in hygiene and communicable disease.
And now, here we are. I left my office at noon, March 17, got set up on a 4-foot by 2-foot table and home, and have only been off Cobb Street about five times since. Thanks to the ingenuity of Joanne Lamoureux, our Club has kept up connections through her emailed aggregates of clippings sent by members. And I have no doubt that there has been a blossoming of social media exchanges between and amongst us all. We’re all together, looking up, and living by that which is beneficial to all concerned.
Just tap the heels of your ruby slippers together three times and repeat after me: “there’s no place like home; there’s no place like home …”
Last week, on April 1st, President Frank Towner pulled a meeting out of his hat! The Zoom meeting was, by all accounts, a “Zoomtastic” success! Frank reported that, “as many as 41” were logged in at one time or another. Are these all “zoomers?” As in, “Okay zoomer?”
Frank wrote that there was great fellowship before the meeting was officially underway, they sang God Bless America, and had a bounty of Happy Dollars. The group talked about ways to support the local establishments that supported our Dozen Dinner Draw this past February, and how to support other organizations that will need help.
A few takeaways from the meeting: - Attendance is needed for records... we will work on how we do that.
- Happy dollars moved quickly so everyone is on their honor to pay up when we return
- We are working on a program.
- This was fun and uplifting for all
Joanne’s meta report for April 1 included a list of Happy Dollar pledges provided by Mary Berens. Here they are: - Mary Berens, $20
- Angela Sullivan, $5
- Juliet Gibbs, $1
- George Ferrari
- Heidi Goldstein
- Frank Towner, $5

- Stacey McNeil

Finally, our member Dominick Recckio asked if I would share information about an upcoming Ithaca College program called Virtual Volunteering. Here it is, directly from the email he forwarded to me from Paula Younger at IC. Greetings, Dominick. I wanted to share these links related to our IC Virtual Volunteering program. Virtual volunteering offers IC students the chance to give back by sharing some of their time and talent while away from the physical site of an organization or project. During this unprecedented time of need, we have established a process for creating an “idea list” of virtual volunteering options available in the local Tompkins County community. Here’s the link for sharing ideas: https://ithacaedu.formstack.com/forms/gcr_virtual_volunteering Here’s the site where the opportunities will be posted and viewed by students: https://www.ithaca.edu/office-student-engagement/community-involvement-and-volunteer-opportunities/virtual-volunteering I’d appreciate it if you could share this information with your networks, county government departments and community-based program affiliates. Hope all is well. Best, Paula
Stay safe, everyone
