Disease prevention is in everyone’s hands! According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the single most important thing we can do to keep from getting sick and spreading illness to others is to clean our hands. In recognition of Global Hand Washing Day on October 15, the Ithaca Rotary Club is expanding its reach to create greater community awareness and implementation of hand washing.

To promote Handwashing Awareness & Education, we’ve posted a short video, Handwashing Rhythm.  Using the links at the left, you will also find a sample set of resources for your school to use – a selection of posters, information and activity flyers, a planning guide for the SNAP “healthy school, healthy people” initiative, and the Global Handwashing Day resource listing for disseminating information via social media.   There are additional resources at CDC http://www.cdc.gov/handwashing/resources.html

Through matching grants from the Service League and Rotary District 7170 we can offer schools and after-school programs a fun interactive activity for groups of children ages 4-7 on the importance of hand washing and how to do it correctly contact. We can also assist with a limited number of copies of the posters and flyers.

Do you have a service club or PTA/PTO that would take the lead for your promoting Handwashing Awareness & Education in your school?   Do you have a social media class that could run with the resources in the lists?  We would like to help – just contact us!

Joining us in this year-round activity for healthy schools is the Tompkins County Public Health Department …..
