Meeting Summary

President Richard Schwahn called the meeting to order at 12:30, welcoming everyone to today’s meeting.

Greeters:
Dennis Jack and Tim Anderson were the greeters today, and Dennis introduced the members who brought guests:
- Exchange Student Frida was in attendance at today’s meeting;
- Casey Allison introduced Starla Atkinson;
- Jack Swanson introduced Joe Bennick;
- Tim Havasi introduced Kendra Ziler;
Song of the Week:
Mark Owens led us in a rendition of “My Country, Tis of Thee.”
Banner Presentation:
Member Garry Mosier, who recently transferred into our club, presented a banner from his former club in Celina, Ohio.
Classification Talk:
Dave Bruni, who recently transferred into our club, gave his classification talk to help us all get to know him a little better.
Rotarians of the Week:
- President Schwahn nominated Bill DeVore for inviting his family to his cabin.
- Gene Theriault nominated Dave Simonson for his work on the Panama Project.
- Dave Simonson nominated President Schwahn for filling in for him at the recent Foundation Dinner.
- Casey Allison nominated the many members who recently gave their time to work at the Food Bank of the Rockies.
- Dick Jay nominated Dale Bohren for hosting the Super 25 Dinner. He, also, nominated Liz Becher for stepping up and giving her presentation today due to the scheduled presentation cancelling at the last minute.
- President Schwahn nominated Liz Becher, The Cundy Family, John Griffith, Jim Anderson and Bill Mortimer for everything they did to make the Foundation Dinner a huge success. He went on to say that 6 people committed to being Paul Harris Society members that evening; Casey Allison, Bob Barnard, Becky Byron, Dennis Jack, Rick Reimann and Brad Cundy in honor of a Rotaract member. He spoke about an anonymous donor that pledged $10,000 in matching funds that evening.
Family of Rotary:
Brian Deurloo’s Mother-in-Law passed away on Sunday. Brian wanted to thank Tom and Robin Broumley for supplying his family with a nice dinner.
Dennis Lower announced that, former Rotary member, Guy Williams passed away.
Announcements:
- President Schwahn announced, once again, the club would be matching funds donated to the Rotary Foundation for the rest of the year.
- For good reasons, Scott Skavdahl and Grant Stumbough have resigned from the club.
- President Schwahn announced that the club’s Accounts Receivable is up to $20,000 of over 90 day past due accounts. The Board has decided, on December 4, to put out on the tables, the list of 90 day past due accounts.
- The Board would like to Becky Byron’s name forward as the new Club Treasurer. The club will vote at next week’s meeting.
- Jim Porter said to speak to him by December 4, if anyone is interested in a package deal that is being put together by his wife to attend the upcoming Bowl game that UW will be playing in.
- John Starnes explained how Slumberland was working with the Child Development Center to deliver beds to 40 children in need in Natrona County. He asked if Rotarians would be interested in helping to deliver the beds. On December 14 at 5 PM, volunteers are asked to meet at Slumberland. The volunteers will be given a bed and an address to deliver it to. Please help if you can.
Program (Liz Becher – Rotary Foundation Month):
Liz began by saying that November is Rotary Foundation Month. The Rotary Foundation began in 1917 and this is its 100th year. Arch Klumph launched the foundation with a donation of $26.50. In 2016, the Rotary Foundation won the World’s Most Outstanding Foundation award.
Contributions to the Rotary Foundation make it possible for clubs to transform lives worldwide. Support funds projects in Rotary’s six areas of focus.
- Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
- Disease prevention and treatment
- Water and sanitation
- Maternal and child health
- Basic education and literacy
- Economic and community development
The Annual Fund provides ongoing support today, while the Permanent Fund helps secure Rotary’s response to the pressing needs of tomorrow. Last year, the Rotary Foundation awarded 494 District Grants totaling $25.5 million and 1200 Global Grants totaling $70 million. Dr. John Barrasso took a few minutes to speak to the club and answer a few questions.
President Richard Schwahn adjourned the meeting at 1:30 p.m stating that next week’s meeting will be at the Casper Events Center.
