Issue 3 | September 2022

Welcome back to our monthly member bulletin. Find out who our upcoming speakers are, what we covered during the last month's meetings, read about what the Board is up to, and more.

Congratulations

Our own Brad Cundy and wife Jan were recognized at the 2022 Boys and Girls Club of Central Wyoming's Awards and Recognition Breakfast on September 14th for the difference they have made for youth throughout the state.

The Cundy's were also recognized by District Governor Lee Varra-Nelson for being a Major Donor to Rotary. Congratulations and thank you to the Cundy's for all of the wonderful things they do for our club, the community, and beyond.

September Speakers

There was no meeting on Monday, September 5th as we observed the Labor Day holiday.

On September 12th, club member and Casper City Manager Carter Napier gave us an update on how the One Cent tax has been used in the past.

On September 19th, we met at the Casper-Natrona County International Airport and heard from Shelby McMillan and Michelle Belt about addiction, overdosing, and recovery.

On September 26th we heard from Grady Booch about IBM's role in quantum computing.

October Speakers

On October 3rd, we welcomed Tyler Cessor, Executive Director of ART 321. He spoke about their 100th year of service in Wyoming in 2024, goals and vision for the arts ecosystem in Wyoming through their recently released 2022-2024 Strategic Plan: "The Plan for 100 Years of Service."

On October 10th we will hear from Guy Sallade, Career Facilitator at Natrona County School District. As a Career Facilitator, Guy gets to act as a tour guide in introducing students to post-high school options, whether college, career, or military ready. Natrona County School District also has a College Coach that focuses on and aids students on college choices, so Guy focuses on options for students not college bound, at least at this time. Those options may include work, a trade school, Job Corps, and the military.

On October 17th we will hear from Dr. Marny Eulberg about Polio Awareness.

On October 24th, we'll have a very special presentation from our Exchange Student, Alice Virungi

The October 31st meeting will be about Water and the West from John Lawson.

Save the Dates

There will be a Club Orientation on Tuesday, October 18th at 5:30 pm at Gruner Brothers.

Central Wyoming Rotary Clubs present PINTS FOR POLIO FUNDRAISER at Gruner Brothers Brewing on Saturday, October 22nd from noon to close. You can help vaccinate children throughout the world and empower them to lead productive lives by simply drinking beer! $1 is donated for every pint.

Just for fun. Check out this historic Rotary photo.
Thanks to everyone that helped out on our work day at Rotary Park.
Corporate Membership Option

Recognizing the growing importance that businesses place on corporate social responsibility, the Casper Rotary Club has created a corporate membership option. Corporations can take part in projects that give back to the community through Rotary’s well-organized structure. The Rotary Club of Casper offers a corporate membership program for businesses, professional practices, government entities, and educational institutions. More information can be found in the Casper Rotary Club bylaws or by contacting Mike Lougee

ShelterBox Update

RESPONDING TO FLOODS IN PAKISTAN
September is National Preparedness Month, a time to highlight the importance of preparing for emergencies that may strike in our community or communities around the world.
It comes as multiple disasters affect millions of people worldwide, including recent catastrophic flooding that destroyed over 1.9 million homes in Pakistan.

As a humanitarian organization, we understand that preparedness is integral to helping more families in less time after a disaster. Using aid pre-positioned in Dubai, ShelterBox mobilized quickly to help the thousands of families devastated by the flooding and left with nowhere to live.

Our response team is on the ground delivering emergency supplies, including essentials to protect families from the elements and kickstart their recovery during this difficult time: tents, tarps, water filters and carriers, mosquito nets, and solar lights.
