Meeting Summary

President Richard Schwahn called the meeting to order promptly at 12:30, with the ring of the bell and welcomed everyone to today’s meeting.

Greeters:

Maribeth Plocek and Mike Ward were our greeters today and Mike introduced the members who brought guests:

First we had a visiting Rotarian and past District Governor, Barb Redder;
Visiting Rotarian Ann Ruble;
Frida our exchange student was with us today;
Kim Perez introduced Josh Hogan and Chuck Heeman (Casper Horseheads Baseball Club);
Tim Havasi introduced Kendra Ziler (Casper Events Center);
John Griffith introduced Joe Beunick (Financial Advisor);
Martha Rakestraw introduced Larry Meeboer from NCHS and also the family of our SOM, Parents Mike, and Cheryl Cox, and Brother Brett Hartzfeld;

Mike Brown gave his classification talk today, welcome aboard Mike. Mike started his career at the ripe old age of 13 by working for free for a week to prove to his employer that he was worth hiring, he worked for them for the next year and a half. After High School he went to work for the Forest service as a firefighter for six months then he served as a missionary in WY and MT and during that time he fell in love with WY. He has been married for 36 years and has 5 children and 12 Grandchildren. He finally worked his way west and ended up in UT then finally got to Casper working for Long Building technologies. He took Dusty Johnson’s place when he retired 2 ½ years ago. He was just elected to the board of directors for Long last week. He currently is involved with CASA and is really enjoying that. He thanked Dean Kline for being his Sponsor.

Rotary Tid Bit:

President Schwahn reminded us that this month is Disease and Prevention Month. He left a flyer on the tables that shows what the Rotary Foundation does for this cause.

Family of Rotary:

Liz Becher’s father passed away, our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to Liz.

Rotarians of the Week:

Dave McNulty nominated Lisa Scroggins for reading to the Crest Hill Kindergarten class for the past five weeks.
Bill Devore nominated President Schwahn and his wife Michelle for the lovely evening they had with the exchange of our exchange student Frida from their house to his.
President Schwahn nominated Bill and Nina Devore and their daughter Olivia along with Craig and Janice Valdez and their children Tom and Teia for the wonderful evening of exchange. Craig and Janice will be host family number three for Frida.
President Richard Schwahn nominated his wife Michelle and Daughter Madeline for going to Cheyenne and helping with the Out Bound Exchange Student interviews to help determine where those outbound students will be sent.

Student of The Month:

Martha Rakestraw introduced our student from NCHS today, Cammy Cox. Cammy is a great young lady and will go far in whatever she chooses to do.

Announcements:

President Schwahn announced that there are sheets on the table for the directory and asked that you please fill them out even if you think that all of the information is current. Also many of us need new pictures.
John Starnes reminded us that they are going to need help delivering the beds that Slumberland donated to needy families on December 14^th at 5:00.
President Schwahn announced that on December 23^rd we have been challenged to compete for raising donations by ringing bells for The Salvation Army. Martha Rakestraw volunteered to organize the effort and asks that those who can join together to ring bells on December 23^rd to please get with her.
Denise Prugh announced that Monday December 18^th will be our annual Christmas party. She has signup sheets on the tables, please sign up the children that you plan on bringing as Santa will have a gift for each child that comes to the party from age 0-18. If you missed the signup sheets please let Denise know who you are bringing. Also there will be a present wrapping party out at Uncorked before the 18^th, time to be announced next week.

District Business:

Past District Governor Barb Redder presented our club with the Presidential Citation for the year 2016-2017. Out of 53 clubs only two clubs in our District received this Citation. She presented it to our Past President Jim Ruble. She then also presented our club with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Rotary International Foundation for our generous contributions from the club for the 2016-2017 year.

Program (Charles Walsh, CAEDA):

P.E. Dick Jay introduced our speaker Charles Walsh, the CEO of CAEDA. Charles gave us a great recap of the past year at CAEDA and what the future looks like.

President Richard Schwahn concluded the meeting at 1:33; letting us know that next week we are back at the Ramkota.
