Guest Speaker - TJ:  Échange rotatoire en France

This was the fabulous heading prepared for tonight's blockbuster presentation but unfortunately TJ could not make it. We will arrange a new time for her.
For those who were unfortunate not to learn French it reads......Rotary exchange in France.

We did have a high old time in committees (euphemistically called love-ins) instead.

Spots

Trevor McGuirk [in an unaccustomed spot] reported that the third quarter report to RI for our Peru project would reflect the success of training 6 Quali indigenous women in health care. Dental care and first aid courses had been run in the villages. His next trip to Peru is scheduled for April.

Geoff Hill had been delegated to provide a briefing on Rotary Peace Fellowships. This is a major Rotary program which involves the training of 100 peace professionals each year. There are Peace centres around the world in the US, Japan, Tokyo, England, Australia (Queensland Uni), Sweden and Thailand offering Masters courses of up to 3 years and professional development for experienced peace practitioners of 3 months. Through academic training, practice, and global networking opportunities, the Rotary Peace Centers program develops leaders who become catalysts for peace and conflict prevention and resolution.

Trevor McGuirk [cannot keep a good person/man down] was pleased to announce that Judi Corcoran and Rhonda Hoare would be attending the Rotary Leadership Institute next week-end at Flinders Uni. Patsy and Graham had volunteered to scorch the sausages at Mitre 10 in their stead.

Sorel Coward announced the generous support being provided by a friend to enable her to receive needed surgery.

The Finale

Trevor McGuirk won the atrocious squares......you can bet the 10 bucks will be going to the Kids of  Cusco. Heather paraded last year's Rotary District community project trophy won by Unley for Pride of Workmanship which now has to be returned to District.
Happiness prevailed after 2 weeks of drought. Stephen the elder was tickled pink about the Adelaide Strikers victory. Bob was happy that Genese could now see him better after cataract surgery. Dennis is tackling the rotten Apple phone with vigor. Valerie was excited by the thought of Calperum on 23-25 February with Graeme and 6 others, and sharing in the Commonwealth Games baton relay on February 21. Graham B is contemplating permanent use of wheelchairs for speedy plane access following the success of Patsy's injury in NZ.

Patrick Fergusson presented his Hornby club banner and we promised to reciprocate when Jerry has located our stock..
See photo opposite.....vision splendide

The meeting closed at 8pm......the Prez gets a tick.

Social Day Cruise on the 'One & All' - March 2018

Following a very successful Youth Sailing Experience voyage to Port Lincoln, some Rotary Clubs expressed an interest in taking part in a more relaxed, social, sail for their members and friends on the 'One & All.'  The inaugural February twilight cruise proved very popular and booked out quickly, leaving many people disappointed.

We are very happy to announce that another social cruise has been organised on Sunday, March 4th  2018, departing from Port Adelaide at 10:00 am and returning at 3:00 pm.  The Day Sail includes delicious on board catering, tea, coffee and cool drinks as we cruise around the Gulf! The cost will be $100 per head, dependent on our filling the ship, which can carry 40 passengers.

Positions on this cruise are now on sale to all Rotarians and their friends. Book promptly to avoid disappointment!

Two brothers take aim at eliminating hepatitis

By Fred Mesquita, Rotary Club of São Paulo-Jardim das Bandeiras, São Paulo, Brazil

Two brothers Fed and José, a car, one important social cause, a lot of courage, and many adventures along the way. That’s how our Expedition “Me Leva Junto” (Take me with you) began in October 2015, now more commonly known as the “Hepatitis Zero Expedition.”

My brother José Eduardo and I completed the first stage of our expedition, the Americas, in December, traveling through 20 countries and visiting 274 cities on the American continent. All our efforts are volunteer; there is no sponsorship from any company or organization.

When we started our journey, we set a goal of carrying out hundreds of thousands of Hepatitis C exams and visiting all the world’s continents. Besides having a direct impact on more than 50,000 people, we never dreamed that we would lunch with a country’s president, swim with a whale shark, or be the guests of honor at a banquet with a homeless person who only had a mud hut to live in. Our experiences have also included difficulties like almost being kidnapped in Mexico and having our tent freeze and car break down due to extreme cold in Patagonia.

There are so many adventures and challenges that we have recorded in our virtual book; which narrates the twists and turns of our expedition. In Brazil, we performed approximately 10,000 rapid tests and diagnosed more than 100 hepatitis sufferers who had their lives saved when they were diagnosed and directed for treatment. Our aim is to bring knowledge and guidance to thousands of people worldwide who have hepatitis and have not been diagnosed. We have visited Rotary clubs throughout the Americas as well as meeting with health authorities and experts at universities and other locations.
Countries visited include Brazil, Paraguai, Uruguai, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, Mexico, United States, Cuba, Canada, Iceland.

The Tale End

True Love

A group of women were at a seminar on 'how to live in a loving relationship with your husbands'
The women were asked, "How many of you love your husband?"
All the women raised their hands.
Then they were asked, "When was the last time you told your husband you loved him?"
Some women answered today, a few yesterday, and some can't remember.
The women then were told to take out their cell phones and text to their husband:
"I love you, sweetheart."
The women then were instructed to exchange phones with another person, and to read aloud the text message they received in response to their message.

Here are replies to the message sent by wives to their husbands:
‘I love you Sweetheart!’

Replies from husbands:

1. Who the hell is this?

2. Eh, mother of my children, are you sick or what?

3. Yeah, and I love you too. What's wrong?

4. What now? Did you crash the car again?

5. I don't understand what you mean?

6. What the hell did you do now?

8. Don't beat about the bush, just tell me how much you need?

9. Am I dreaming?

10. If you don't tell me who this message is actually for, someone will die.

11. I thought we agreed you wouldn't drink during the day.

12. Your mother is coming to stay with us, isn't she?
