Rotary Club of Arden Arcade
Lunch Meeting

 President Christine Jensen
Presiding

NOTE:  Our Scholarship Meeting is this Tuesday,
May 20th, at Del Paso Country Club!

President Christine Jensen rang the bell and welcomed club members and guests to the small, but mighty, Rotary Club of Arden Arcade.  She thanked everyone for coming to her 40th meeting and only a few more to go.   She is not counting down in anticipation of the end, as she is enjoying her time as Prez.
Pledge:
John Gabriel
The Prez asked John Gabriel to lead the pledge to our flag.

The Prez then led the club in reciting the 4-Way Test:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

She then asked Al Cady to provide the invocation.
Invocation:
Al Cady
... and Guests!

Dean Henricks - Visiting Rotarian

Dean Henricks joined the meeting just after introductions were held.  Dean is a frequent visitor of our club from the Citrus Heights Rotary Club.  Dean has been a Rotarian for over 50 years. Unfortunately the club members he enjoys visiting with were not in attendance today.

Guest Speakers
Tracey Napier

Tracy will be given a more in-depth introduction later in the meeting.

John Gabriel - Bell Ringer

John has been away for the pasts 5 weeks and felt the need to ring the bell after spending an arduous time in the south pacific, a difficult job, but someone has to help keep the economy of that region going and he felt the need to answer that call.

Mike Grace - Bell Ringer

Mike shared that he turned 73 on Sunday.  He was very proud of the fact that in his wisdom and foresight, he planned the time of his birth in such a way as to honor his mother by making her a first time mother on Mothers Day in 1952.  It has been all downhill since then for Mike as that was the last time he ever planned anything ahead of time.   He also mentioned that his 48th wedding anniversary is on the 29th and he has no idea what they are going to do to celebrate it. The secret word is downhill.
Daniel Martin - Happy Bucks

Daniel shared that he participating in the "24 Hours of Lemons."  This is a race for cars that are valued at no more than $500.  Some friends of his had an EV-converted Datsun pickup and needed some drivers .  They asked Daniel if he would like to be one and he gladly accepted the offer.  The race will take place at the Thunderhill Raceway,  just outside of Willits, on May 30th and 31st. The team that recruited him is called Arc Blast and they are the ones that converted the old pickup to electric. They hold the record for the most miles in an electric truck and want to improve upon their record. Pictures and videos have been requested.
Rob Olmstead - Happy Bucks

Rob was a bit saddened to share the following without the District Governor being present, but decided that he needed to share it anyway.  He was at a Sacramento Republic Soccer FC (Football Club) game on the weekend.  The game was close and Sac Republic FC managed to tie it in the final portion of the game.  While leaving the stadium Rob noticed a lonely, glum-looking, sad-to-be-sure officer questioning his decision to be in the parking lot full of soccer fans.  Rob the altruist, always looking for ways to lift up his fellow man,
decided to send his son over to the officer with comforting words, sure to lift his spirits. His son dutifully walked over to the officer and said
"Volleyball sucks, Soccer rules!" With that, the eyes of the officer illuminated with the recognition that a fellow Rotarian, a member of his club and of District 5180, the district of which he was Governor, must be close at hand.   The officer's countenanced immediately changed, and was no longer sad, but was filled with a much different emotion born out of the reality of the situation, one of defiant resignation knowing he was in enemy territory and that he needed to consider a strategic retreat to safer ground before providing a measured response...
to be continued...
I'm sure!
Badge Box Positions
Open to the
Highest Bidder?

It has come to the attention of the Prez that a member(s) of the club has/have become disquieted by the change of badge locations withing the newly upgraded badge box.  One remedy for this disturbing repositioning of the revered badges was to auction off the coveted badge slots to the highest bidders.  One particular club member was called out in this regard... Rolundia noted that she felt that the repositioning may have been done in error and that the error should be rectified without cost to the members.  However, if the change was not the result of an errant name-badge-box-repairing-craftsmen, then, she would like to purchase her old spot back, as it is near and dear to her, reminding her of her early days in the club when she was younger and filled with awe and anticipation for her membership in the club.  The Prez noted that spot relocation bids starts at $20.  One of the more contentious club members offered up $30 for whichever spot Rolundia wanted. The Prez, seeing the error of her ways, and attempting to keep peace in the club, and the fact that she likes Rolundia, said if her spot was not already filled with someone else's badge, she could move her badge back to the place in which it felt the most comfortable and accustomed.  Peace was once again restored to the club, but the club's coffers were not further enhanced.

Scholarship Lunch

Signup sheets for lunch preferences were passed around.  If you did not get a chance to sign-up for a meal, you will get whatever is leftover in the kitchen.

The Scholarship lunch is being held at the Del Paso Country Club and starts at noon.  Rotarians are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good seat.  You are also encouraged to disperse throughout the tables as to mingle with the school representatives, parents and students.  Let them know about Rotary and what we are doing to make our community a better place in which to live. Also, Joelle Fondale will be installed as the club's newest member during the lunch.

The hat was passed to help defray the cost of the meals for the guests as this event is free to them but not to us.  Only a couple of hundred more dollars is needed to cover the food for the students, parents and administrators.

Demotion
The demotion is still on Friday June 6th at Gibbons Park, thanks to Mission Oaks RPD.

Interact Banquet
Six Interact students will be meeting for their banquet on Thursday.  Bruce Stimson and Debbie Hudson will be representing our club.  Our District Governor is also slated to be there.

Bangladesh Education Program Update
We received a letter from the Salema, the woman in charge of the education program in the slums of Bangladesh that teaches women to read, providing they take what they learn back to their neighborhoods and teach the children and other mothers how to read.  This program is transforming poor neighborhoods and empowering women and children to achieve higher standards of living.  A letter from her was passed around.  The letter points out just how important small things are to them, things that we all take for granted.

Annual Golf Tournament
This year's golf tournament is being held at Whitney Oaks golf course on September 30th.  The first official committee meeting will be in July.

Blue Book
Club members wishing to have changes made to their Blue Book page need to send the changes to John Gabriel.  Changes to the pages will be made in mid June and the updated book will be available at Matt Ross' first or second meeting.

Club Membership Committee, Mentorship Program
We are looking for members, other than the members who sponsored the individuals, who have been members for two years or more, and have served on a committee or been on the board, to offer to help the new Rotarian learn the ways of Rotary.  The mentorship is for a period of one year.  The membership committee will play matchmaker to pair up the newbie with the oldster.  This will help the New Rotarian become an Old Rotarian and the Old Rotarian to remember why they became a Rotarian in the first place... win, win.  The experienced, qualified Rotarians, are asked to send the Prez an email indicating their desire to be considered as a mentor.  The mentors will be invited to attend the new member dinners... and there will be alcohol.

Rotary Hats
We have blue and we have white Rotary hats for sale.  Many people purchased them today, but you can still purchase yours at the next meeting while supplies last.

As an intuitive life coach, author, speaker, and reiki practitioner, I’m passionate about personal and spiritual development.
Having experienced firsthand the powerful transformation that healing and self-discovery can bring, I am on a mission to assist others in creating powerful transformations of their own.

My passion for personal and spiritual development has led me to learn from some truly incredible spiritual teachers. Through the HCH Institute, I earned a Certificate in Energy Therapy, where I was
certified in Reiki, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT/Tapping), Dowsing and Muscle Testing, and Energy Boundaries. I also received my Spiritual Life Coach Certification from Awaken with Sophie.

To deepen my knowledge, I’ve taken a variety of courses, such as Spiritual & Psychic Exploration with AskTHEO, Prosperity Plus III with Mary Morrissey, and Meditation One with the Berkeley Psychic Institute.

I’ve studied intuition development with Wendy De Rosa and took transformative courses in Manifestation and How to Call on Your Angels with Laura Powers, Angel Intuition with Melanie Beckler, and a course in forgiveness and personal freedom.

These teachings have played a powerful role in my own transformation and have provided me with the tools and expertise to guide others on their own transformational journeys.
Editor's note: Tracey is a lovely lady and has a sincere heart and a great desire to share what she has learned from dealing with her own life challenges, one of which is a speech disability.  Unfortunately, the recording of her talk is barely audible and I was not able to glean enough useful information to make a decent attempt at sharing her story.  For this I apologize.
President Jensen rang the bell and closed the meeting at 12:45 P.M. extoling everyone to go "Share the Magic of Rotary."
