Rotary Club of Arden Arcade
Lunch Meeting

 Past President Tim Cahill Presiding

Past President Tim Cahill would have rung rang the bell, if it were present, to welcome everyone to the best damn Rotary club in Arden Arcade...
but it was not there to ring... So, he did it without the bell.
Pledge: Lydia Wytrzes

The Past President Cahill asked Lydia Wytrzes to lead the pledge to our flag, and she did as requested.

He then asked Mike Grace to provide the invocation... which he did.
Invocation: Mike Grace
Past President Cahill lead the recitation of the Four-Way test
without the aid of the slide... what a guy!

It was at this point that the bell arrived.  Chris Lewis brought the newly shined bell with him.  The bell was rung and the meeting felt official.
... and Guests!

Visiting Rotarian - Tammy Linker

Our President Elect, Debbie Huson, introduced her counterpart at the West Sacramento Rotary Club, President Elect Tammy Linker. Both are optimistic about their upcoming stints as presidents.

Visiting Rotarian - Lee Burkhouse

Sergeant at Arms, Al Cady, introduced our honorary member, Lee Burkhouse.  Lee has been a member of the Arden Arcade Rotary Club for 30 or so years... ever since James Harrington was president.

Guest & Future Rotarian - Linda Abdelbaki

Heather Wulfert was once again very happy to introduce Linda to the club for her third visit.  Linda is a licensed therapist and knows that she can help the club in oh so many ways.  She has submitted her application form.

Guest - Chris Wong

Ryan Driffill introduced a poker tournament participant, Chris Wong.  Chris was intrigued with the club and decided to check out the meeting and see if what he was told about the club is true.

Guest - Raina Montgomery

Sgt. at Arms Cady introduced Raina Montgomery.  She works with him in another office at Edwards Jones. Her office is across the street about two blocks away.  Al enticed her with a free lunch if she came today.

Guest - Linda Vogel

Roy was pleased to introduce, frequent guest, his lovely wife Linda.  (Sorry about the out of focus picture.  She is much sharper in person.)
Show Me the Money!

Bell Ringer - Chris Figueroa

Chris was ringing the bell for several reasons.  First and foremost was the nine days he spent on Oahu, Hawaii.  He went there with a tan and came back with a better one, in spite of the fact that it rained a lot while he was there.  He was pleased to be able to do his business while sitting on the beach. Additionally, he just closed his largest maintenance landscape maintenance account yesterday.

Bell Ringer - Bill Hambrick

Bill was ringing the bell because he took care of one of his bucket list items, he and his wife taking a sleeper car on the California Zephyr to Chicago.  They had a blast. They spent a few days playing tourist in Chicago and had a great time, "they just had a hoot!"

Happy Bucks - Debbie Hudson

Debbie was contributing Happy Bucks because she just learned that Tim and Laurel Cahill will be traveling to Taipei to the Rotary Convention too.  She is excited to have company at the convention.

Happy Bucks - Tim Cahill

Tim is happy that Debbie is happy to have him and Laurel there.

Happy Bucks - Ryan Driffell

Ryan was happy to share that he had a phenomenal time at the District Assembly on Saturday, along with a few other club members.

Happy Bucks - Al Cady

Al was happy that we have a nice shiny bell to ring.

Happy Bucks - Lydia Wytrzes

Lydia also attended the District Assembly, and she too had a good time and wanted the record to reflect as much. "It was very good, very illuminating."

Welcome Back Tiffany

Al Cady gave a warm welcome to our former, long-time server, Tiffany.  Tiffany is filling in today for Liza.  It was good to see her.  She still remembered what everyone drank.
Lisa Asperger

Lisa knew
"Antonym"
was the Secret Word.

Lisa chose a shirt from the few Al Cady brought from his garage after doing some spring cleaning.

Trivial Thoughts from Tim

Tim noted that our club has been around since 1954.  The club members murmured and a member stated that it was 1955.  Tim acquiesced and inferred that his point was it was a long time ago, well before most of the club members were born.  His point was that the bell was as old as the club and was looking as tarnished as some of its members. That is why they had "Brasso" Chris Lewis, take the bell and give it a bit of a rub down.  The secret word is Brasso. Now you can actually read that the club was chartered in 1955 and not 1954.

Did anyone know that one of our club presidents was once a National League baseball pitcher? The answer was no. No one knew that our 1963 club president Orville Grove had pitched for 10 years for the Chicago White Sox from 1940 to 1949.  After retiring from the big leagues, he came to the Sacramento Solons.  After retiring from the Solons, he became part owner in a car wash. So, one might say he was washed-up when he became a Rotarian?

Diane Pawloski

Thomas Goode shared that Diane Pawloski has been approved for membership, contingent upon final approval by the club.  Members opposed to her joining the club were asked to contact Tom to express their disfavor.  Based upon the initial responses from club members, it looks like Diane is going to be our newest member and will be induced, make that inducted, into the club on April 7th. We look forward to her participation.

Kira Anderson
Executive Director, Sacramento Ballet

Past President Tim Cahill introduced Kira Anderson, Executive Director of Sacramento Ballet. Kira has over 20 years in education, arts, and nonprofits.

She has a background in dance, singing, and theater. Kira has performed nationwide and previously in Sacramento Ballet's Nutcracker. Her goals include supporting the art form, community connection, youth engagement, and stewarding the company’s future. Kira grew up in Sacramento. She left for 20 years to pursue arts career and returned in 2016. Her grandfather was a Rotarian, so she is familiar with Rotary's community mission. She is

excited to be part of Sacramento Ballet, a cornerstone cultural institution founded in 1954... it is older then our club as well as Disneyland (70 years).

Summary
This transcript features an in-depth discussion led by Kira Anderson, the newly appointed Executive Director of Sacramento Ballet, detailing the institution's rich history, community involvement, and upcoming season. Anderson, a Sacramento native with over 20 years of experience in the arts and nonprofit sectors, emphasizes the ballet's unique structure comprising a school, a second company (an elite training program), and a main professional company. She highlights the legacy of Ron Cunningham, former artistic director who significantly elevated the company’s profile and recently passed away, with planned tributes in the upcoming season. The upcoming 2026-27 season, themed 'Legacy in Motion,' features a diverse repertoire from classical to contemporary works, including the iconic Nutcracker with expanded performances and accessibility features. Anderson also introduces Tit Helemitz as the new artistic director, noting his prestigious background. The conversation includes audience Q&A addressing common misconceptions about ballet, emphasizing its athleticism, diversity of styles, and community relevance. The dialogue underscores the importance of community support for the arts and the generational impact of ballet experiences. The session concludes with a donation announcement supporting Rotary’s polio eradication efforts, reflecting the community-oriented spirit of the event.
