The meeting September 10th was pretty full! First, we had a vistor from The Rotary Club of Dawlish Water, Devon England, Edmund (Ed) McLaughlin pictured with George at left, was visiting relatives in Edmond and did a make-up with Edmond Summit. A banner trade was made and we learned a bit about the Dawlish club.
We had two members from the Mustang Rotary Club (shown in picture to the right), Mark Wolf (l), and Dean Smith(r) next to George came over to sell raffle tickets to their Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Tickets are $25 ea or 5 for $100 and are available at https://www.mustangrotaryok.com/ for credit card purchases or go to FundRazr for Paypal and Search for Harley Davidson. You will have a decent chance of winning this beast as less than 1000 tickets were printed and less than half have been sold so far..
Finally we were able to get to our program which was excellent. Jennifer Schmidt (r) is the Development Assistant with The Children's Center Rehabilitation Hospital and spoke about the work they do with severely injured children or children who are coming out of surgery and need intensive therapy to regain their quality of life back. She brought along Ashleigh Robinson, with the Allied Arts of OKC who gave a first hand testimony of the impact the Children's Center had on the life of her sister who came to them after undergoing over 6 months of leukemia treatments at OU Medical. Her Sister had essentially lost all muscle tone and had no strength to move or balance to stand if she could. The Childrens Center brought her sister back from essentially a lump of flesh to a vibrant teenager. It took several months but the center personnel were "solid" and "family" and became integral to the fabric of the entire Robinson clan.
Jennifer passed out brochures about the 1898 Club, which honors the legacy of the founder of Children's, Mattie Mallory, by making a monthly gift of 18.98 to The Children's Center REhab Hospital.
