Rang the Bell at 12:14 while Jimmy Buffet sang, "Cheeseburger in Paradise."

4-way test
Thought of the Day: Jim Fritzsche. The Margaritaville website has information on how to avoid a hangover. Surprisingly, avoiding alcohol or drinking some the next morning were not on the list. Suggestions: 1) make sure you eat foods high in fat and protein, 2) lighter color drinks can be easier on the head (Jim says Gin doesn't count), 3) no more than one drink per hour is a good pace, 4) mix it up with water or juice in between alcoholic drinks, 5) take a big drink of water or sports drink before bed (unless you're an old man), 6) take an aspirin when you wake up, 7) ginger can also help overcome a hangover.
Introduction of Visiting Rotarians and Guests: Ray Ward, our past District Governer is here as our speaker. On Zoom we welcome Clarence Parkins, Keith McBride, and George Gomes.
Tax and Accounting Minute: A cautionary tale. Charitable gifts must have careful documentation. Mrs. Albrecht donated art with an independent appraisal of $464,000, and the appraisal was not contested, nor the 5-page gift acknowledgment from the museum. The IRS took issue with the omission of the detail that she received nothing in exchange of any value. Fixing the documentation to add that in was not accepted either because it was not contemporaneous, so she lost.
No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: 1) Carroll Dudley's euro donation was exchanged for $20 USD because the bank would not accept the euros. 2) Jack Kimmel has been a member 54 years and is late on his dues. He was fined $20 for scaring us that he might not re-up this year. All our love to Jack.
News:
Carmichael BBQ is coming up Sept 12th at 5:00 PM. Meat is provided. We are potlucking the side dishes. Tim Hayes has the sign-up and promises he will not be manning the grill this time. At our last party at Bill Watson's house, Tim had a little explosion of the propane that was exciting.
This Saturday at 8:00 AM we'll meet at Tahoe Elementary to fix the irrigation system in the garden and repair the roof vents and cap on the greenhouse. There was a nice raise of hands for those who will be there.
The Children's Receiving home kids had fun as our guests at 6 Flags.
We had fun on the Beer Boat. Jim said he was steering and got it backwards, but was saved by one of the staff so the boat didn't crash into the bridge.
Today we had a flamingo bundt cake and played "Know Your Jimmy Buffet Songs"
Bell Ringers for 23/24 year at $100 with no immunity given: Kevin Wilcox, Don Brodeur, Randy Smith, Bob Deering, Jack Kimmel, Tim Hayes, Dave Jones.
Speaker Today Ray Ward, past District Governor, spoke to us about Marketing our Club. He suggests we 1) use the Rotary Logo, 2) Take Action by increasing the pool, talking to thousands, not just our intimate friends. 3) Work together with other nonprofits, and people who donate to our causes, etc., inviting them to everything. 4) Crow about all of our service projects, letting the community know what we're doing so others who want to participate will join us. 5) Have a real marketing plan with the committees of Membership, Community Service, and Marketing involved. Set goals to invite people to our parties, our service projects, and our meetings. Publish what we did after the event is over. He said, "people are shopping us; let them know what we are about."
Raffle: won by Carroll who donated it to Maria as a token of friendship.
