We were greeted with chocolate bunnies from our president Amy. It wasn’t the normal start to the meeting. Once Amy was reminded to ring the bell, the music that starts our meeting would not play. It resulted in one of the loudest applauses of the year since we didn’t have to sing.
Happy dollars: No Fundmaster, but Amy did squeeze some money from the crowd. Bill Watson donated $20 as he announced that his daughter, Savana just signed to play professional soccer with the Reno Vikings.
Tim Hayes missed the last 2 meetings as he went to Charleston, SC and Savana, Georgia. He thanked Chris Deering for doing the bulletin in his absence and did give Amy a gift (bribe). He still donated $20.
Dave Jones picked up 2 big accounts and celebrated by donating $100 and becoming our latest bell ringer.

Sunshine: We celebrated the April birthdays and anniversaries. Lew Wahl celebrated his 93rd birthday. Chris brought carrot cake cupcakes to celebrate.
The last Saturday of this month, the Watson’s will be hosting a social event. Bill is providing the steaks but is asking for us to bring either an appetizer, salad or desert. Bill promises a few bottles of wine will be consumed.
Community Service: River City Food Bank is on Thursday and Saturday, April 15.
The Rotary House cleanup scheduled for Saturday has been postponed. The family that was supposed to move out has not.
St. John’s Program for Change: We will be painting 2 small rooms on Tuesday, April 18. Kip Johnson is hoping to have 2 more volunteers to help.
Cinco de Mayo: President Amy is celebrating Cinco de Mayo at our May 3rd meeting. Instead on Italian food, we will be having tacos.
Speaker for the day: Dr. Mark Underwood. Dr. Underwood is a neonatologist who formally worked at UC Davis but is now in Spokane. He talk was about the studies of the gut and the bacteria in the gut and how it is impacted. Among some of the highlights were:
- Breast milk has changed over the years, it is less effective.
- Breast fed children have better gut bacteria then those on formula
- C-sections weakens the immune system.
- Gut bacteria is worse in developed countries.
- Antibiotics in shortly after birth have a negative impact on a child’s health
- When asked about probiotics, he said that he doesn’t recommend them except for a few days before entering a hospital
- Fermented food, such as yogurt, are good for the gut bacteria.
Raffle: Jim Shaw won the raffle. We were glad someone other than Carrol Dudley won. However, Jim decided he didn’t want one of the raffle prizes so Amy drew again and sure enough, Carrol won.
