Happy dollars:  Because of the Shelter Box drive (more about that later) Amy did not attempt to get happy dollars out of any of us.  

 

Bell Ringers for 22-23 year:  John Brown, Hanns Haesslein, Allison Hamaker, Maria Mengotti, Jack Kimmel, Kim Walker, Don Brodeur, Bill Watson, Carol Dudley, Peggy Porter Honeyman, Bob Deering, Keith McBride, Marsha Vacca, Randy Smith and George Gomes.

 

Tree Planting:  We had a successful tree planting at the Oak Park Rotary House.  Bob Deering, David Jones, Lewie Donhost, Kathy and Keith McBride, Tim Hayes and Amy Ruggles joined Rotarians from other clubs to plant three trees.  The recent rain made it easy to dig the holes.  We were done in 30 minutes.  

 

Axe Throwing:  No one died from our Axe Throwing event Friday.  10 Rotarians and spouses had a great time. 

 

Beer Bike:  On March 25, from 2-4pm, we will be riding the beer bike in mid-town.  Cost will be $45 per person.  Only 6 have signed up so far and the bike holds 15.  Let Chris Deering know if you want to participate. 

 

Shelter Box:  President Amy initiated a fund raiser to deliver Shelter Boxes to Turkey by naming the 4 Amethyst pups.  Our goal is to raise $3,000 (each box is $1,000).  For each $20 given for the cause, you get a ticket there you put a name of the back of the ticket.   If that ticket is chosen, then the name will be given to one of the pups.  Next week we will pick 4 tickets so we can name her 4 pups.  

 

Speaker for the day:  George Gomes brought us Jim Morris on Zoom to talk about the farm industry.  Jim has worked for the California Farm Bureau and the California Rice Commission and is now working for Redox Bio Nutrients out of Burley, Idaho.  Jim gave us an Ag Industry review.  The farmers are hardworking, good people.  Their business is a roller coaster ride, constantly changing from good to bad and back again.  

 

Russia and Ukraine account for 25% of the wheat and corn production worldwide.  The war has had a big impact on these 2 crops.  

 

Food inflation will continue to exceed the national inflation rate for the near future. 

 

Sustainability is impacting the farm industry.  There are less farms and the remaining farms are much larger.
