- In 1777, the Second Continental Congress adopted the Articles of Confederation.
- In 1886, approaching the Colorado foothills of the Rocky Mountains during his second exploratory expedition, Lieutenant Zebulon Pike spots a distant mountain peak that looks “like a small blue cloud.” The mountain was later named Pike’s Peak in his honor.
- In 1942, the climax of sea fighting in the Solomons came in the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. The U.S. landed a sizable contingent of reinforcements and supplies on the island. The result was a series of violent confrontations that inflicted heavy losses on both sides but left the United States in a position of strength in the southern Solomons.
- In 1966, the Flight of Gemini 12 ended after 4 days in orbit.
Tax & Accounting Minute - Jim Fritzsche. A clean audit can have foul accounting because an audit is of the Financial Statements, not the system. If the systems are bad, an auditor submits a change order for more work so they can report weaknesses. But auditors are loathe to report bad news, so it doesn't often happen.
Happy Dollars:
- Tim Hayes had a week in the Central Coast and was surprised to run into Randy Smith at Pea Soup Andersen's in Santa Nella.
- LaMond Harrison received the honor of becoming the President of the Sacramento Branch of the NAACP. Bill Watson put $100 into the gold pan in his honor, making LaMond a bellringer.
- Kevin Wilcox was successful in his elk hunt after hiking in northeastern Utah at 7,300 feet.
- Carroll Dudley is retiring but still had to take the test and continuing education for his insurance license for his last year.
- Jim Fritzsche bought a silver and black Genesis GV70, the Raider Mobile.
Sunshine Report by Lewie Donhost giving us the birthdays and anniversaries for November and December, and serving up a lovely cake.
News:
- Randy Smith reminded us of the Foundation Dinner at the Citrus Heights Community Center this Saturday 11/18 at 5:30. The club has seats available.
- Chris Deering had us cheering that our Interact Club with St. Francis is official.
- Tim Hayes went over the list of food we're donating for the YWCA holiday dinner, and four items are still needed: green bean casserole, mixed vegetables, and ice. Bob Deering will bring the ice.
- Sandi Sava encourages us to contact her to get our balance due for Poinsettias, which will be ready for pickup 7:30am on Tuesday 11/28 at Bill Watson's office at 2371 El Camino Avenue. This year our sales of 738 exceeded last year's of 624 plants.
- Bill Watson and his wife Kelli will be hosting our Christmas party on December 16th.
Club Assembly - we discussed the club survey and the merger next year with the Rotary Club of Carmichael. Desire to merge clubs was unanimous on our side and theirs. We will try both lunch and dinner meetings for a while to see which is preferred. Many members had questions and opinions, so it was a healthy discussion.
