No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Carroll Dudley was fined $10 for passing out Edward Jones pens to sign our books today. They bear the address of Carroll’s previous office.
Wisdom of Tim: Thanks to all who came to the Carmichael Club’s BBQ last night. There were about 50 people, and lots of great food. We had a great time.
News:
- Sandi Sava – weather and fires and hurricanes have done lots of things to poinsettias this year, but we will persevere. The signup is going around today to preorder red, white, and varietal in flats of 6. Hoping to sell them for $10/plant after negotiations with nurseries.
- Carroll Dudley – before our meal today we wrote inspirational thoughts into books for Tahoe Elementary. Carroll also gave presents to Jim from his trip to Portugal.
- Marsha Vacca – Run with the Cops 7:00 am to 10:00 am October 7th followed by the K-9 facility work project at McClellan to spread 10 yards of decomposed granite and 10 yards of mulch noon to 4:00 pm. The electrical at the K-9 training facility was repaired by electrician Chuck Beard so the lights are re-established at the carports there. Even though the work was much more extensive than expected, Mr. Beard did not increase his bill. The YWCA luncheon yesterday was perfect. Many thanks to Chris Deering and George Gomes for picking up the food and setting a beautiful table.
- Randy Smith – we have secured 2 tables for the Foundation Dinner. Let Randy know if you are attending. Bob will take checks for $80/each written to our club. It is November 18th at the Citrus Heights community center.

Speaker Today: The multiple-choice Q&A game by Jim for District Governor was fun; the answer was always “D.” DG Smith was introduced by Assistant District Governor John Price. DG Smith's topic was membership. He would like us to focus on the second question of these two: 1) who are we, and 2) what are we to each other and the community? It’s vital to be interested in others, to learn about each other and what our community needs. Rotary is about friendship. Homework assignment – call up those who are missing and say, “I miss you! It’s not the same when you aren’t here.” Like the old BeeGee’s song, “How Deep Is Your Love?” We need to show it. Share Rotary with everybody. Are we tuned in and understand what Rotary does in the big picture? It’s wonderful. We are a diverse lot and should celebrate what unifies us. After his speech, a “Creating Hope Award” was presented to Carolyn Curtis. Jim Fritzsche accepted in her behalf. Sidney encouraged us to come to the District Conference May 17-19 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno NV. Jim gave Sidney Smith a George Foreman Grill as a speaker gift.
