Announcements:
Good news from Chris Deering. We now have a fully-chartered Interact Club at St. Francis High. Nine of the 13 members attended the chartering event.
Next week our meeting will be Tuesday January 30th, gathering at 6:00 pm with Carmichael. We'll be at the same place. The meeting will start at 6:30. Dinner fee is $30 cash only.
Amy Ruggles had us save the date for our hike at the Sutter Buttes on Saturday February 17th. The cost is $30, we'll be carpooling, and it's an all-day affair.
February 24th is the Crab Feed with the Rotary Club of Carmichael. There's also a cake auction and we'll be dancing.
Desiree Wilson announced District Leadership Training on Feb 24th and 25th at Sierra College. The sessions will be limited to 25 people, so sign up now. Topics are: Leadership, Communication, Facilitation Skills, and Business Progress & Planning. Rotary leaders are encouraged, but all are welcome.
Tim Hayes reports that our merger is coming along well. Detail will be available to the membership at the end of February with the vote for the merger and to elect officers March 9th.
Our District Conference will be May 17-19 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno Nevada. Jim Fritzsche recommends staying in the Summit Hotel.
One more Save the Date from Amy Ruggles - June 29th will be our double demotion and Confluence Celebration of the merged American River club. We'll meet about 5:00 at the Northridge Country Club.
Speaker Mary Lynn Kagan shared information about Canine Companions for Independence. She raises puppies for the first year and a half, training them carefully, and then lets Canine Companions complete the training and give the dog free to a deserving person in need. Mary Lynn talked about the many dogs she has trained, the beauty of the program, the diverse types of training the dogs receive depending on the recipient and showed us what a big difference this type of companion can make in the lives of their companion. Her current puppy Muggs came to show us how obedient she is. It was a beautiful presentation.
