4-way Test recited
Thought of the Day – President Kennedy: “We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others, too.”
Introduction of Visiting Rotarians and Guests: Visiting from the Rotary Club of Point West: Bob Tilley, DDS Retired.
Tax and Accounting Minute: Jim Fritzsche introduced Qualified Charitable Deductions. If you’re 70.5, have an IRA, and are charitably minded, do a QCD. You don’t get an extra deduction, but you get to claim lower income. It counts toward your Required Minimum Deduction. You can claim up to $100,000 per person. The best way to send this charitable deduction is to use a checkbook from your investment to send it. Otherwise, have the broker send the check to you so you can forward it, so the charity knows you sent it and they can send you the donation letter required by the IRS. Tell your pension provider to mark the box that says part of this distribution is for a QCD.

GSEC drives economic growth in the region through business attraction and helping our existing businesses to grow. They represent the region from Davis to Lake Tahoe, a population of 2.6 million people. They are a nonprofit with a public/private board of directors made up of CEOs from the largest companies in the region and government officials, with about 70 members on the board. The organization was started in 2015. What do they do? They help with site selection, talent attraction, public relations, government incentives, diversity and inclusion, custom research and analytics, business retention and expansion. They’ve created 27,000 high value, tradeable sector jobs. 112 companies have located or expanded here with GSEC support. $18.96 million has been generated for every $1 invested in GSEC, a $9.7 billion contribution to the regional economy. $149 million tax revenue has been generated for our local governments, and they are the #3 EDO in the world awarded by the IEDC. What do they look for? Capital market and new venture creation momentum.  We’ve seen 12.17 billion in growth capital invested over the past five years. What do companies look for? Greater Sacramento is world-leading in semiconductors, AgTech, and food tech. We are a hub-and-spoke campus for tech and bioscience.
