We had a big crowd at today’s meeting. We had 14 adults and children from the Sacramento Receiving Home join us for lunch. President Elect Jim Fritzsche paid for their meals.
Today was the first time we had the buffet. It was a success.
Huang Wei
DGE Huang Wei from the Rotary Club of Cupertino spoke about membership. Huang was born and raised in Taiwan and came to the US for school. She joined Rotary in 2007 and has helped her club double their size in the past 20 years. She gave us great ideas on how we can grow East Sacramento Rotary and its starts with us asking people in the community if they have heard of Rotary and explain why it is so important in our lives.
Visiting Rotarians and Guests:
PDG Desirée Wilson and DGN Sydney Smith were among the dignitaries present to hear Huang speak. Amy’s daughter, and girlfriend of Kordel Hampton, joined us.
Desirée took this opportunity to correct a mistake at her District Conference. Despite the club being the largest donor club in the district and exceeded the goal for the club, we did not receive and award. Desirée acknowledged the mistake and gave Chris Deering a silver award for Foundation
Membership:
Speaking of membership, co-membership chairperson Sandy Sava announced that there will be an event at Piatti’s Restaurant on August 18 at 5:30pm. This event is for any Rotarian that has joined the club in the last 5 years.
Human Trafficking Seminar:
Bob Deering announced that there will be a Human Trafficking Seminar in San Diego on October 1. Bob was involved in setting up this seminar. You can attend either in person or through Zoom. The cost is $50 per person, if you attend in person or $50 per Zoom link.
River City Food Bank:
As a reminder, this Saturday, August 13, from 10-2 we will help the River City Food Bank.
Foundation Dinner:
The district Foundation dinner will be on September 17. Bob Deering is getting a head count so we can reserve some tables. It is always an enjoyable and inspiring dinner. Cost is $70/person

Hanns Haesslein joined the Bell Ringer club.
