Valentine’s Day: Even though Valentine’s Day had passed, President Amy had to remind the men about their least favorite holiday.  Amy asked the members to wear red.  Amy not only had a red dress, but she also wore her red sneakers.  She brought a big bowl of Borscht for the club to eat. 

 

Guests:  Amy’s guest Sherry Greco and Bob’s guest Sawan Vaden joined us at the meeting.

 

Happy dollars:  Funmaster Laura had a trivia contest about St. Francis school in honor of us starting the Interact club this week.  As a result, she didn’t have time to squeeze money from the club members.  However, she did ding Lewie Donhost for not silencing his phone the previous week.  Apparently Becky doesn’t let Lewie have that much money to spend, so he had to take an IOU.

 

Bell Ringers for 22-23 year:  John Brown, Hanns Haesslein, Allison Hamaker, Maria Mengotti, Jack Kimmel, Kim Walker, Don Brodeur, Bill Watson, Carol Dudley, Peggy Porter Honeyman, Bob Deering, Keith McBride, Marsha Vacca, Randy Smith and George Gomes.

 

Carolyn Curtis: Chris gave us an update on Carolyn.  She is back home from Stanford and the prognosis is good.  It appears that the experimental treatment has worked.   She is week, but would love to get cards and notes from the members

 

Axe Throwing:  Chris Deering announced that we will be Axe Throwing on Friday, February 24 at 6:00 PM. Chris will get us the address.  

 

Beer Bike:  On March 25, from 2-4pm, we will be riding the beer bike in mid-town.  Cost will be $45 per person. 

 

Shelter Box:  As a result of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, RI is asking us to step up and provide help.  The club wants to support this effort by donating to Shelter Box.  New week we will hear more about it and ask for your commitment.

 

Dictionaries:  Carrol Dudley is planning to donate dictionaries to the students at Tahoe Elementary school after next Wednesday’s meeting.  Let Carrol know if you want to help.

 

Ukraine Family:  Amy and Lamond have used Serhii to do work for them.  He has done a great job for them.   If you can use him for any of the tasks shown, please reach out to him.   His English is not great but he uses Google Translate so he can have a conversation with you.  

 

Children’s Receiving Home:  PE Jim Fritzsche said the event Friday evening was a success.  They enjoyed the pizza, video games and bowling.   Upcoming events include Bocce ball at DPCC and a swimming party. 

 

Speaker for the day:  Patrick Furlong with the Rotary Club of Fair Oaks,  is District 5180’s Youth Protection officer.  Chris Deering as agreed to be the club’s Youth Protection officer.  This is necessary because of the Interact club at St. Francis.  Anytime a Rotarian is working with Children unsupervised, they need to go through the district’s training program.  The program is designed to prevent us insulting, harassing, or abusing children.  Patrick reminded us that your intent is not relevant in determining if you have caused hard to children.
